Flagpole roundels
[edit]Anyone know the original purpose of the flagpole roundels? There are lots of them throughout the Underground, especially on the Morden extension stations, but I've never seen any picture with a flag on the pole. Was the pole really intended as a flagpole, or just an ornament? Mtford 20:02, 29 September 2007 (UTC)
- Just ornamental. London's Transport Museum has many pictures of stations with the flagpole roundels but none of them show a flag flying or appear to have the necessary equipment to hoist a flag - see here. The pole is probably there as an architectural statement to draw the eye. --DavidCane 22:36, 29 September 2007 (UTC)
