"Stinky tunnel" moniker

[edit]

The sentence naming the tunnel as the "stinky tunnel" has been noted as needing citation, and I tried my best to find some. I understand this is simply anecdotal and does not meet Wikipedia's standards as a reference, but as someone who grew up in Dain City/Welland through the 80s and 90s I know personally that it was well known at least to Dain City residents of that timeframe as "the stinky tunnel". I believe it is still known as such to Dain City residents to this day. For example, I was able to find the following resident casually referring to it as such on a Jeep forum. The second post in the thread, by user johndeerekid, contains several instances of the moniker.

The closest reference I found was a Niagara Falls Review column describing the reason for the smell, which I have included and cited, but it unfortunately makes no direct reference to the name "stinky tunnel" and so cannot serve as citation for the name.

I understand this is original research at best and doesn't qualify directly to support the citation, but I hope it can inspire someone in the future to attempt to find a proper citation, or at least give it the benefit of the doubt until a proper citation can someday hopefully be found. The nickname does seem to be pretty local though, and for that reason, might also be considered non-notable.Cecilkorik (talk) 06:17, 2 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
