Werewolves of London reference
[edit]I got to this page from the Random Article link, and immediately thought to add the lyric from "Werewolves of London." I'm not really a Wikipedia expert, so I hope I did it properly.
List of Restarants
[edit]The accuracy of the restaurant list seems questionable. Comparing to the list at the Trader Vics website does not match, but may not be accurate either (wikipedia indicates Chicago as recently closed, Trader Vics site lists it, but clicking on it opens an "opening soon" page). Don't knwo how best to resolve this, but thought it worth noting. Gunnk 20:25, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
I agree, the list shows the LA restaurant as closed, but Trader Vics website shows it alive and well. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.227.166.144 (talk) 18:05, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
The locations are correct.
The Chicago location was closed (after 48 years) because they were kicked out by new owners of The Palmer House Hilton in 2006. Trader Vic's is looking for a new locaion for the Chicago restaurant, which will be opened under a franchise agreement with Harry Caray's Restaurant Group.
The Beverly Hills location was also closed to make room for an expansion of the Beverly Hilton by adding three condo and hotel towers in a hotel within a hotel concept that will bear both the Beverly Hilton and the Waldorf-Astoria name. Trader Vic's was in the way of the expansion and has been torn down. The new location will be in Downtown LA near the Staples Center.IceBRG (talk) 01:55, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
Why isn't Oakland listed among former locations? The opening section mentions that the original restaurant was started in Oakland but then no more is said of it. I'm not sure, but I think when the SF one was built it took over as the main branch and then Oakland was later relocated to Emeryville. Some time in the 1950s, maybe? If anyone knows the details, it would be nice to clear that up. Iglew (talk) 20:20, 15 March 2009 (UTC)
Since the Trader Vic's in Las Vegas closed, maybe the photo on the main page should be changed. Why not replace it with a picture of the LA one. I would but don't know how to do pictures on Wiki. July 21, 2009 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.202.18.9 (talk) 17:30, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
I removed the following from the Expansion section, as it seemed irrelevant where it was and also unimportant.
- There was a Trader Vic's in Boston's Statler Hilton Hotel in Park Square (now the Park Plaza Hotel).[1]

Trichinosis

Trader Vic's Canada
[edit]After closing business in 1996 the Trader Vics was auctioned and bought by David Whiffen of Victoria, BC. It's now embroiled in controversy as Mr. Whiffen defends his right to own the most iconic building in Vancouver's history from his squeamish neighbors' apathy. Once it made $4,000 a night next to the Westin Bayshore Inn hosting Gorbachev, Clinton, P.E. Trudeau, and home to Howard Hughes for a couple years. Now (2014), it sits idle on a farm in Saanichton overlooking the Brentwood Bay where I and the owner happily drink growlers of Phillips Brewery beer and happily work on the trials of our days. The copper roof is now oxidized green and drips nostalgia. The bar moans for the masses to welcome her back to life, somehow some way? #resurrectTV's.
The Vancouver Trader Vic's sits waiting a resurrection in Saanichton BC. I had no idea how iconic the building is. As the gentleman owner and I shared a growler of beer he told me Howard Hughes lived in the room we were in. I was shocked and took a liking to the building. I am now trying to recreate its architecture in my house. Seeing how I have a live template! Lailowe (talk) 03:22, 31 January 2014 (UTC)

Mama Gruber's Fishouse was another Trader Vic's failure. They had a drink called The Potwasher with a special mug depicting an old lady (Mama Gruber) carrying a frying pan. When this restaurant closed, the drink was moved to the Senor Pico menu. I don't know if its still served in the Senor Pico restaurants overseas but Oceanic Arts had a whole case full of these mugs.

Trader Vic's in Hawaii
[edit]I have magazine from the Matson Line published in 1940 for the Jan-June 1941 ocean cruise season. On page 6 it features an advertisement for Trader Vic's! The copy reads "Trader Vic's, Pake food served in original manner, Amidst truly tropical surroundings, We ask you to enjoy our Zombie!, Makai of the coconut hut on Ward street, Trader Vic - Granny Abbott" This puts Vic's in Hawaii at least 10 years earlier.
