Geographical particularities

In many European countries (Germany, Switzerland, France) public-transit tickets are often valid for any combinations of modes of transportation, i.e., customers can change freely between buses, trams, trains, and even boats. In the U.S., in contrast, special transfer tickets are often required and sometimes even incur an additional fee.
