Needs to be merged with Transgene and moved to Transgenics

[edit]

The reason is that when referring to the technology or technologies of mixing the genes of different species together, the common term among all scientists and literature is transgenics (noun) or transgenic (adj). The expression "transgenesis" is much less common.

Google: transgenesis 155,000 hits, transgenic or transgenics 11,300,000 hits. THAT'S A NEARLY A 100X FOLD DIFFERENCE (10000%) !!!

Amazon.com: transgenesis has 70 books, transgenics/transgenic has 2770 books (adjective and noun are obviously simultaneously present in all books)

Wikipedia policy indicates preference for least surprise when choosing titles. But since the most common is an adjective, this may be why the original editors were tempted to move it to transgenesis, but this is not a good choice. It is the least relevant term of all to the science of transgenics in general. Since transgene already contains some relevant content, I would suggest they both be merged to a final article called transgenics. Also some of the content from the GMO page would need to be transferred as the GMO page has been very awkwardly handled on the topic.--Tallard (talk) 13:29, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
