I am trying to find out what the situation is regarding driving licences issued in the Channel Islands. They may be exchanged after 12 months of the driver moving to the UK, but what about moving to Spain? Are they treated as a foreign (non-EU) licence? The Spanish Trafico web site is not clear on this and trying to get information from them, unlike the very helpful DVLA in the UK, is almos impossible. They just ignore any communication, even when handed in by letter at their offices, and of course, no one knows when you phone.

Does any one know what the law is in this regard? Can they be exchanged in any EU state if residence is taken up there?

You don't specify whether it is a Jersey licence or a Guernsey licence. For Jersey licences, check with Driver and Vehicle Standards who will be able to clarify the situation regarding reciprocal arrangements. Man vyi 09:13, 9 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
