The pronunciation

[edit]

@Mr KEBAB: Is it /trɛt ˈhjuːiː/ and should we add . between /juː/ and /iː/? LoveVanPersie (talk) 05:34, 6 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@LoveVanPersie: It's /ˈtrɛt ˈhjuːi/. The syllable break is superfluous as no English diphthong is written with ː. Mr KEBAB (talk) 10:07, 6 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Mr KEBAB: Is the stress symbol in /ˈtrɛt/ redundant? LoveVanPersie (talk) 10:21, 6 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@LoveVanPersie: Transcribing stress in monosyllables is redundant only when you transcribe a monosyllable and no other word. The phrase Treat Huey has three syllables, not one, and only /i/ is unstressed. You could argue that /trɛt/ is less stressed than /hjuː/ (which is probably true), but it seems to me that /ˈtrɛt ˈhjuːi/ is a more common type of transcription than /ˌtrɛt ˈhjuːi/.
