WP:Split proposal - July 2021[edit]

I propose to split this disambiguation page, moving the people and characters to Trelawny (currently a redirect to Trelawney). There are quite a few people currently listed on the DAB page, making it difficult to scan, and most of the people listed have the surname Trelawny rather than Trelawney. Leschnei (talk) 16:29, 30 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Amended proposal - see below
I agree that the DAB page has got bulky and would benefit from splitting. It may be better to keep Trelawney as the DAB, and move the people to Trelawney (surname). People (and places) use both spellings; note that there is both a real Petroc Trelawny and a fictional Petroc Trelawney. (Fortunately, the broadcaster hadn't attracted any links intended for the pet rock.)
The spelling without "e" looks the more common, and should probably be the basename. No-one seems to have thought about the question since at least 2006. Any WP:ROBIN moves required could easily be done by an admin or by anyone with the WP:PAGEMOVER privilege. Narky Blert (talk) 08:03, 31 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Narky Blert: Not sure what you mean by 'The spelling without "e" ... should probably be the basename' in this case - would Trelawny be the DAB title, a surname page, an article about the name, or something else? Leschnei (talk) 15:17, 31 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Leschnei: Sorry about the lack of clarity. What I have in mind is Trelawny as the DAB page (the basename); Trelawny (surname) for all the real and fictional people; and Trelawney and Trelawney (surname) as redirects to them respectively. Narky Blert (talk) 15:34, 31 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that your version is the best way to go - how does one change a proposal mid-stream? Should I simply re-state it below? Leschnei (talk) 21:22, 31 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
A tidy way to do it is to use strike-out markup on the parts of the text in your original proposal which you no longer support, and follow it with a new, doubly-indented (::), post along the lines of "Amended proposal - see below". That way, other readers will be able easily to follow the course of the discussion. Narky Blert (talk) 08:57, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Done, thanks Narky Blert. Leschnei (talk) 13:01, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I propose to split Trelawney into a surname page and a disambiguation page, moving the people and characters to Trelawny (surname) and the remaining entries to Trelawney. Trelawney (surname) would redirect to Trelawny (surname); Trelawney, Trelawney (disambiguation), and Trelawny (disambiguation) would redirect to Trelawny. Leschnei (talk) 13:01, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Narky Blert, in the second proposal above, I listed Trelawney twice, as a DAB page and as a redirect to Trelawny (oops). Since there's really only one entry for Trelawney that isn't a person or character - that being Trelawney, Zimbabwe - making Trelawney a redirect seems the better option. Are you willing/able to do the WP:ROBIN swap? I would be happy to clean up the pages and fix any incoming links. Leschnei (talk) 14:12, 2 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Leschnei: It looks as if this discussion has run its course. I have the WP:PAGEMOVER privilege, and would be happy to do any ROBIN swaps needed. Just {{ping}} me. Narky Blert (talk) 14:32, 2 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Narky Blert: Please go ahead with the ROBIN swaps. Thanks, Leschnei (talk) 11:59, 3 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
