Champus merge[edit]

Champus (or more properly CHAMPUS) is just a former name & earlier implementation of TRICARE. There is really no need for the article to be separate. -- 63.224.137.164 15:54, 11 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have merged CHAMPUS to this page. As an employee of one of the three regional contractors (won't say which one ;-D) there are some other difficulties here also, F'rinstance, TMA does not contract with claims administrators, that is the task of each of the lead contractors. I will be looking at this page and coming up with some ideas over the next little while and see if I can flesh this out some.UnseemlyWeasel 00:31, 27 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't actually mean that TMA contracts with the claims processors when I wrote it (although they do for TDEFIC), but I can see how it looks like that now. I'll also think about a clearer way to word that section.CJKreklow 00:17, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

US Family Health Plan[edit]

Dental coverage[edit]

I believe that Delta Dental is the only dental insurance contractor for both active duty and retiree dentistry. I added a link but I'm not particularly happy. It could be improved. TMLutas (talk) 22:46, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Applications/Affairs[edit]

There could be a HUGE benefit to the public if a section could be added that describes the application and claims processes and other paths that one has to travel through this bureaucracy. Universal healthcare?[edit]

An editor has added the category "Universal healthcare" to this article. It seems like this is prompted by the health care reform proposals in the U.S. By the definition in the article universal health care, though, that's not what TRICARE is, since it only covers people associated with one organization (the U.S. military), and is not "health care coverage for all eligible residents of a political region." On the flip side, the reference to single-payer health care was added, and I think that's valid. ~Pesco^{So say•we all} 15:20, 15 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Definition, yes, of course (you're right). But let me point out that when I reverted the edit I kept Cat:HCR off. I never added the HCR cat and agree that it is not relevant. No need to be sorry! Just differing opinion, which is why they have talk pages to sort out these things. Sorry if my response came off harsh. Hmm, sorry, I thought you added the HCR cat, too. My mistake. I understand people would try to use Tricare as a model for universal healthcare because it's single payer and covers a large group of people, including families. Tricare for Life?[edit]

There is/was an option for military retirees called "Tricare for Life" which covered retirees and eligible dependents. As I understood it, it was the same as Tricare standard/basic, but for retirees. I don't know how it works once Medicare kicks in at age 65. It would probably improve the article if this was worked into the article.--TGC55 (talk) 02:58, 23 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
