Full track

[edit]

I have created a full version of the track at commons:File:06U 2024 path (full).png. Can I upload it or is the official track preferred? 2003LN6 17:32, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sure! you can upload it, but make sure that people are okay with it first Accordthemusician (talk) 18:25, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If people are happy with this path, I wouldn't mind merging it with commons:File:06U 2024 path.png. Again, up to the community though.

Being careful

[edit]

Without a source we need to be extremely careful about calling 06U/05F the third longest tropical system on record, since officially it was only tropical system from February 1 until it moved out of their AOR on February 28 or in other-words 28 days which is the same as Rewa 1993.Jason Rees (talk) 19:45, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

yeah, that's true
in the Australian basin, it formed on the 30th of January, so if you're talking logically, its 29 (or technically 30) days, but I get where you're coming from Accordthemusician (talk) 00:18, 1 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

oh yeah i forgor

[edit]

This is my very first article, and I may have screwed stuff up, but I tried my best to make it much like other articles of this kind

I propose merging Tropical Depression 05F (2024) into 2023–24 Australian region and South Pacific. I think that article can be easily merged because there is no source to describe the longest tropical cyclone system, and if you search on Google about this article, there is little information about preparations and impact. For further information about standalone pages, see: WP:NOPAGE. HurricaneEdgar 11:32, 2 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Support - the TD did little and its narrative can be told easily in the season articles. Hurricanehink mobile (talk) 16:06, 2 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Support - Per above reasoning, also additionally the claim that it is the third-longest living cyclone on record is extremely dubious given that for half of its life it was only tracked by the FMS, with ATCF showing the system dissipating much quicker. Sria-72 (talk) 21:50, 2 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Support - To me, for a TC to have its own article, it has to have bad land impacts and/or general wind strength. This didn't really meet either of my criteria.

I agree that it should be merged, but there are things like the 2006 Central Pacific cyclone, the 2005 Azores subtropical storm, Hurricane Grace (1991), Hurricane Epsilon (2005), Tropical Storm Zeta (2005), Hurricane Dora (2023), Hurricane Hector (2018), Hurricane Kilo, Hurricane Genevieve (2014), and Hurricane Olga. 2003LN6 03:08, 3 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Support - There is also nothing special really about this low. Yes it was a little more long lived than usual, but considering the actual history of this low, and the fact the article is around the same size as in the two season articles, I recon we just merge these articles. Thanks! JustThatNerdyNerd (Let's chat!) 11:42, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Support: Nothing in the article suggests notability, and lifespan is dubious. Sadustu Tau (talk) 08:49, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Comment - Why did it get its own article in the first place? Thanks! JustThatNerdyNerd (Let's chat!) 09:23, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

:Wait - I feel that a decent article can be made out of the system and that there is more out there that talks about the impacts from 05F/06U, we are after all talking about impacts in Vanuatu, New Caledonia and Fiji.Jason Rees (talk) 10:48, 3 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • If impacts are added and there is enough to flesh out the article, sure, but right now there isn't that content in the article, and it could be easily split across two seasonal articles. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 19:20, 3 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

:Oppose per @Jason Rees reasoning. Ominateu (talk) 15:25, 3 March 2024 (UTC) (checkuser blocked) HurricaneEdgar 22:45, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Support merge – No noteworthy impact, little media coverage, details can easily fit within the season articles. Drdpw (talk) 13:36, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
