Untitled[edit]

Error in entry. The Tryon of the entry is actually NOT the compiler of the Cyclopedia of Quotations. The compiler makes it clear who he is in the Authors' Reference Index, in the entry "Tryon Edwards (1809-1894),Am.theol. and editor - great-grandson of Jonathan Edwards and father of Tryon Edwards, the compiler of this work." quotes[edit]

"True humility is not an abject, groveling, self-despising spirit; it is but a right estimate of ourselves as God sees us." Tryon Edward —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.160.184.26 (talk) 19:59, 3 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have verified that the above quote appears on p. 236 of "A Dictionary of Thoughts" and have added it to the main page of this article. CononOfSamos (talk) 21:35, 3 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
*"[In Christ,] We are not punished for our sins but by them."
I have removed this quote from the main page as a possible misattribution. A very similar quote [ “If you err it is not for me to punish you. We are punished by our sins not for them.” ] can be found on page 12 of The Note Book of Elbert Hubbard (1927); no source is cited here for this quote originating with Tryon Edwards; and a search for such a source (via Google Books Search) fails to produce a result. Until/unless a credible source can be found that attributes this quote to Tryon Edwards, I believe that this quote should be placed on this Talk page.
