Expansion[edit]

I have expanded the article, which was previously a redirect to the Battle of Hoover's Gap; that article will probably need some maintenance, which I will do soon. in the meantime, if anyone has ideas for photos or other images to decorate this article, please feel free to add them. Garfield opinion[edit]

I previously included an opinion about Garfield's motivation, cited to Steven E. Woodworth, but have removed it. I spoke with Dr. Woodworth about it at a conference today and he acknowledged that the citation was correct as stated, but his thinking has evolved and he is no longer comfortable making that value judgment. Chickamauga strength[edit]

The statement that "Bragg's army was strong enough to defeat Rosecrans at the Battle of Chickamauga" is misleading, as Bragg's army received massive reinforcements between Tullahoma and Chickamauga. A simple contrast between the numbers for Bragg's army on this page and that of the Chickamauga page reveal a difference of 20,000 additional troops on Bragg's side during the latter campaign. This would of course include Longstreet's corps on loan from Lee. The strength of Rosecrans' army, on the other hand, was much the same during both campaigns. Simply put, to say that Bragg's army was "strong enough" to win at Chickamauga seems to be a bit of a stretch. As a result, I have changed the wording to "received reinforcements that enabled it to defeat Rosecrans at the Battle of Chickamauga." — Preceding unsigned comment added by Perkins49thovi (talkcontribs) 19:06, 10 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
