Mac Tail

[edit]

Hi. I've learned who the king of Ui Fidgenti in the Life of St Senan from the Book of Lismore is. He was a king or dynast of the Corca Laidhe ancestral to the Coffeys, the family being rival to the Ui Builc of the O'Driscolls. However in the narrative he's given associations across the Shannon and especially with the Corco Modruad, and it happens they also have a notable dynast by the name of Mac Tail, thus I would assume this addition recalls historical Ui Fidgenti presence across the Shannon, whether or not that occurred during earlier times before their establishment ~ 350 AD.

For a nicely presented scheme with Mac Tail of Corcu Loigde / the Dairine, see * Dobbs, Margaret E., "Miscellany from H.2.7. (T.C.D.)", in Zeitschrift für celtische Philologie 21. 1941. pp. 307–18.

I'll at some point add this and a number of other sources for various purposes to the article here, but won't be writing much further after I'm finished with Dáire Cerbba, intended to be my primary contribution this year.

O'Donovan family (Uí Chairpre) 1100 to 1584

[edit]

Just to let everyone know, I am preparing a smallish paper covering all known activity and clear enough mention of the O'Donovan family between 1100 and 1584 (accession of Donal II of Clancahill), and this should suffice for most of Uí Chairpre history during this period, although the last years of the O'Clerchins and O'Billrys are exclusively of Thomond concern, no offense to them. The O'Heas and O'Regans, as well as obviously the Uí Chonaill O'Collins of Carbery, will be mentioned in the paper, which altogether is to a significant degree intended as a convenient reference for DNA researchers and the 2nd millennium history of R-Z16259.

Just don't get angry when the MacCarthys Reagh get a lot of honourable mention.
