Taking the Case from State to Federal[edit]

The intro tells us that the case was filed in state court, and ends by saying "Both the trial court and the Arkansas Supreme Court agreed with Hill, declaring Amendment 73 unconstitutional." But the next section starts by discussing the decision in the U.S. Supreme Court. Was a second suit filed in Federal court? Or did somebody appeal the state decision to Federal court?
