Moved Section to Talk[edit]

I Found the following section on the main. This is not the proper way to handle conflicts of information so I moved it to the talk page. See WP:Citation for style in citing web references. Conflicts of this nature are best handled on Talk pages, not crossing out material on the main page.PB666 yap 20:44, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

False Statements by MARAD[edit]

NOTE: USCGC Courier (WAGR-410) is NOT Export Courier (T-AK-5019) contrary to publicised statements by MARAD in July of 2008.[1] http://search.google.dot.gov/MARAD/MARADSearchProcess.asp?q=cache:zo8mZuuomOMJ:marad.dot.gov/Headlines/2008/News%20Releases/marad%2016-08%202%20to%20southern%20scrap.pdf+courier+southern+scrap&access=p&output=xml_no_dtd&ie=UTF-8&client=default_frontend&site=MARAD_Pages&proxystylesheet=default_frontend&oe=UTF-8

Courier was transferred from the MARAD NDRF reserve fleet in July-August 2008 for scrapping at Southern Scrap Recycling in New Orleans, LA. On September 1, 2008 during Hurricane GUSTAV, this vessel and many others were loosed in the Industrial Canal and are the subject of a USCG investigation with American Explorer and many others having caused damage to the Flood Control System.

According to contradicting MARAD records via PMARS, one instance of the vessel was scrapped in 1975, another indicates it was reactivated in 1991-2 and operated in Persian Gulf as a transport vessel.

MARAD reserve fleet publicly touted the economic viability of the sale of this historic vessel immediately prior their delivery to Southern Scrap in August 2008.[2]

Critique of removing section from page[edit]

[1]

check that and repopulate the concern and information.

adding seealso export courier given its stuck under the I-10 bridge and MARAD says its this one.

Conflict is the Director of the Department of Transportation...[edit]

The conflict is that the federal government doesn't even know what vessels exist, no less which one is which they are selling to psuedo-terrorists launching them into bridges as you see. someone make a note of that for main page, possibly use sections of strikeout.

  2. I am not going to resolve the conflict, you need to get with the folks who contested the information on the main and work it out with them or others. I simply removed some pollution from the main page.PB666 yap 22:08, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  3. Wikipedia is not a news source or reporters, it is an encyclopedia. Any conflicts of information need to be presented from valid perspectives respectful of both the major news opinion and major minor opinions. Self referencing using personal web pages is not the way to go about this. The goal of adding information to wikipedia is to add information in an encyclopedic manner.PB666 yap 22:08, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

When its seeded and struck by the same party based on available information...[edit]

me and me argue that MARAD and MARAD dont know what they are doing.

someone add the concern in, im not going to bother beyond the federal document now. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bluenorway (talkcontribs) 22:16, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Resolution of the conflict[edit]

There are 5 ships named courier under Naval Reserve Administration DOT with the Name Courier.[1] However 2 of these are renames.

  • Only one name is unique a C4-S-57a, the American Courier was assigned only to the James River Reserve Fleet and scrapped in 1985.
  • The ship of C1-M-AVI class named Coastal Messenger was renamed Courier (248685) in 1951. It was sold 2-14-77 under the strict condition that it be scraped preferably in the US to Andy International, Inc. $71,999.00. There is no further record of this ship.
  • A ship of C3-S-46b, a bulk goods transporter, what I would call a coastal freighter, maiden voyage as Export Courier (289947) in 1962 was renamed Courier (11420) in 1980 and reassigned to the Beaumont Reserve Fleet in Port Neches, Beaumont, Texas. It had an ABoS#6201727 and was sold Southern scrape metal corperation on 7/25/2008 on 8/13/2008 it was shipped to SSMC in NOLA.

This appears to be a misunderstanding by the press officer who wrote of the transfer. However this does not justify the appauling behavior of certain individuals. Presentation of the exact information instead of name calling and finger pointing is appropriate here.PB666 yap 04:38, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

==False Statements by MARAD==

NOTE: USCGC Courier (WAGR-410) is NOT Export Courier (T-AK-5019) contrary to publicised statements by MARAD in July of 2008.[2] http://search.google.dot.gov/MARAD/MARADSearchProcess.asp?q=cache:zo8mZuuomOMJ:marad.dot.gov/Headlines/2008/News%20Releases/marad%2016-08%202%20to%20southern%20scrap.pdf+courier+southern+scrap&access=p&output=xml_no_dtd&ie=UTF-8&client=default_frontend&site=MARAD_Pages&proxystylesheet=default_frontend&oe=UTF-8

This is not how to cite the article use <ref>[URL page name] site name and accession date</ref>. The statement in the article names explicitly:

The Courier was a Maritime Administration originally launched as the cargo vessel M/V Coastal Messenger in 1945. The Coastal Messenger was transferred to the control of the Department of State in 1952, renamed the Courier, and put into service as a mobile relay station for Voice of America broadcasts into communist-controlled countries. It served in that capacity until 1964. [3]

This vessel was indeed destroyed in 1977, and they are erroneously referring to this ship instead of the ex-Export Courier, Courier that was part of the beaumont reserve fleet.

" Courier was transferred from the MARAD NDRF reserve fleet in July-August 2008 for scrapping at Southern Scrap Recycling in New Orleans, LA. "

This statement is correct. Unfortunately it is on the wrong page. This belongs on a different page.

"On September 1, 2008 during Hurricane GUSTAV, this vessel and many others were loosed in the Industrial Canal and are the subject of a USCG investigation with American Explorer and many others having caused damage to the Flood Control System.

According to contradicting MARAD records via PMARS, one instance of the vessel was scrapped in 1975, another indicates it was reactivated in 1991-2 and operated in Persian Gulf as a transport vessel.

MARAD reserve fleet publicly touted the economic viability of the sale of this historic vessel immediately prior their delivery to Southern Scrap in August 2008.[4] "

with the exception of the word "this" the statement is correct. It is simply on the wrong page. I will move it appropriately.PB666 yap 04:51, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
