An irrelevant comment is in the "BOX" that goes with this class of warship:

"Note: As of 2004, Mk13 systems removed from all active US vessels of this class."

This warship was given to Egypt much earlier than that, in 1996 specifically.

Furthermore, quite a few additional fast frigates of this class have been given to Egypt, Turkey, Poland, and maybe other countries. One stated purpose of removing the Standard Missiles (SM-1MR) and their launchers from all of the American ships of this class was to be able to maintain supplies and spare parts for this Mark-13 missile system for the foreign users, including the Royal Australian Navy, the Republic of China Navy, and the Spanish Navy, too. To be brief: these are the only warships with surface-to-air missiles that those navies have, and they are primary warships. On the other hand, the U.S. Navy has scores of guided-missile cruisers and destroyers that are equipped with large numbers of Standard Missile SM-2MR missiles as part of the immensely-good AEGIS air-defense and missile-defense system - plus the new SM-3 ABM missiles that are coming into service. What is needed is a separate BOX for the warships that really do have the missile launchers, SM-1s, Harpoon missiles, etc. At least, the Spanish Navy is now building several new AEGIS air-defense ships, and the ROC Navy now has the four former Kidd-class guided-missile destroyers of the U.S.N., all transferred to that navy in 2004 as its largest, haviest-armed, and most-technically-advanced warships. 98.67.164.50 (talk) 05:07, 20 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Probable renaming[edit]

With the Egyptian Revolution of 2011 having resulted in the overthrow and departure of President Hosni Mubarak, it can be anticipated that the ex-Copeland will very shortly be renamed. Watch out for this. Rif Winfield (talk) 10:18, 12 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

On December 04, 2011 an IP-adress changed the name of the ship from F911 Mubarak to F911 Alexandria. The change was made in a way that made it look like the ship always had the name Alexandria in Egyptian service. The sentence read: "Decommissioned and stricken on 18 September 1996, she was transferred to Egypt the same day as Alexandria (F911)" That is not true, the ship was renamed Mubarak when it was transferred to Egypt in 1996 and kept that name until 2011. After the 2011 revolution in Egypt it is thought that the ship was indeed renamed again to get rid of the name Mubarak. I found no sources for the new name, but it is not unlikely that the new name is indeed Alexandria, as other ships of the Egyptian navy are also named for cities. I changed the article to mention the possible name change in 2011 but we need some source for the new name.Earthgoogler (talk) 17:10, 29 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
