battery fire[edit]

I think the battery fire in the 80s is pretty notable. Ship was considered in extremis and sever damage requiring a long upkeep was created. I can't find a good unclass source for it though. The stuff I googled all had the details wrong, so I don't want to link to them. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.246.149.94 (talk) 17:06, 30 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There was no battery fire. A deformed water deflector plate on the outside of the battery well caused salt water to enter and partly flood the battery compartment which resulted in phosegene gas chemical damage to batteries. Guitarro returned to Mare Island for successful battery restoration and preventive measures. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.94.224.155 (talk) 17:44, 8 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Russian sources says that Guitarro sent a mayday signal "Всем кораблям! Пожар в аккумуляторном отсеке! Сломанное копьё!" - "To all ships! Fire in battery section! Bent Spear!" --XaHyMaH (talk) 17:19, 5 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
