Strong DD758

[edit]

Was sunk in 1974 on way to being scrapped according to first part of article. Not in service to Brazil until 1996 as stated. Abercrom (talk) 21:57, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

That seems unlikely. The U.S. Navy's Naval History and Heritage Command site says: "Strong was decommissioned and struck from the Navy list on 31 October 1973. She was transferred to the government of Brazil the same day as Rio Grande De Norte (D-37) and still serves that government." I don't know what date "still" refers to, and it's likely that the NHHC page was not further updated. However, the Navsource Naval History site says: "Transferred to Brazil 31 October 1973, renamed Rio Grande Do Norte (D 37). Fate[:] Stricken 06 February 1996. In 1997, she was under tow from Brazil to India to be scrapped when she foundered in high seas off the coast of Durban, South Africa, and was reported by Brazil to have sunk."
I don't know whether the Navsource Naval History site is a WP:RS; but it's cited in the article.
Where does the information that it sunk in 1974 come from? TJRC (talk) 22:11, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
