What should I do?

Place to discuss recent edits adding an officer's mention

[edit]

I am responding to a new editor request who is unhappy their edits have been reverted here. I'd like the page editors to explain why inserting this officer's name is not best practice on Wikipedia. I'd also like to point out Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not, which might help a new editor understand why we choose to draw limits on the kinds of additions which pass review. The new editor has been edit warring, IMHO, and this could result in a block (possibly by someone besides myself) if these insertions continue. BusterD (talk) 23:27, 18 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
They apparently added a mini-biography about Irving R. Chambers into the Washington Irving Chambers article in 2022. I doubt an Irving R. Chambers article would survive though. --Dual Freq (talk) 00:07, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I guess what I meant to say here is that Irving R. Chambers does not appear to meet notability criteria for his own article and since he doesn't have his own article wikipedia editors don't generally want to list the names of crew members. There is sort of a backdoor biography for Chambers inserted into the Washington Irving Chambers article, but Irving R. Chambers would need his own article to be listed in this article, which is about the ship's history rather than the crew. There is no disputing the fact that I. R. Chambers was the commissioning CO of this ship, per DANFS. --Dual Freq (talk) 23:06, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
