Let's talk sources. First, if these postures "may" do the things a student recently suggested when editing this article as part of a class project, [1] the editor should offer a source for the speculation. Ujjayi breath - Misinformation

There is much misinformation on you tube and probably elsewhere on the internet concerning this breath. This, and all pranayamas should be learned in the presence of a qualified and experienced teacher. All of the you tube entries I have seen on Ujjayi pranayama, are flawed. For instance, the voice is not used during this breathing technique, yet many of the people demonstrating it are using their voices. There should be complete ease during this breathing, yet there is clearly tension in the demonstrators necks and shoulders. Please understand that the breath has great power, and these pranayama techniques should only be taught in person with the teacher and student having access to speak to each other. 70.134.212.202 (talk) 19:39, 16 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]


As a rule, you cannot increase your oxygen by increasing your breath. Unless at a critical stage of lung or heart disease, the blood is already near-maximimally saturated with oxygen; even adding supplemental oxygen adds little to the amount being carried.

Also, many conflate "prana" with "breath" or oxygen. Prana is ethereal, metaphorical, subtle. Breath is coarse and physical. Mark L (talk) 20:20, 28 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ujjai is not three part breath

This article, besides giving several random vernacular names to ujjai (like ocean and cobra breath) seems to be expanding the definition of ujjai to three part breathing. There is no connection between three part breath and ujjai other that the fact they can be done together.
