As of page creation, the information in this article is mostly extrapolated from a single WAKAchan discussion and may be somewhat inaccurate. I'd greatly appreciate it if someone fluent in Japanese could take the time to do some research and correct it as necessary...

Also, I've heard the term software agent used to describe programs like this, but the Wikipedia article seems to be about something completely different- does anyone know whether the usage I'm familiar with is legitimate? -Duty 07:24, 27 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Yes, an agent can be a visual "character" that does things for the user (like the infamous Clippy paper-clip in older versions of Microsoft Office, or the animated dog that performed searches in Windows XP). However, the term "agent" is broader and can refer to helpful systems with no on-screen graphical representation, which is probably why the software agent article confused you.
