untitled

[edit]

the bare dative primarily doesn't suggest a full title of "von unaussprechlichen kulten", as stated in the article. native speakers would rather interpret it as "für unaussprechliche kulte" / "unaussprechlichen kulten gewidmet", meaning "for unspeakable cults" or "devoted to unspeakable cults" — Preceding unsigned comment added by 178.191.247.202 (talk) 10:54, 25 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This is correct, on the familiar "dem deutschen Volke" pattern. On the other hand, the "von" explanation may chime better with what the coiner had in mind.137.205.101.77 (talk) 15:21, 13 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move

[edit]

Unaussprechlichen Kulten (sans category) seems like the most logical name for this title. A band allegedly goes by this name too, but the fictional book came first and is probably more notable (considering that on the Unaussprechlichen Kulten (disambiguation) page, the band is a red-link and has been so for some time). For the record, this name is also a song title, though the song is based on the fictional book. Once the move is effected, a hatnote could be placed at the top of the article directing users to the DAB page.

At Marvel

[edit]

In the comics, Nameless Cults appeared during the Marvel Premiere issues featuring Shuma-Gorath, and passages were described in Chamber of Chills#3 relating to a toad-esque monster. Savage Sword of Conan#74 notes that Von Junzt was a German eccentric. In this book he also wrote of The Black Stone in the moutains of Hungary near Stregoicavar.

Capitalization

[edit]

When spelled out with the preposition, shouldn't the full title be "Von unaussprechlichen Kulten"? In German, all nouns get capitalized, regardless. "unaussprechlichen" is an adjective, which should not be capitalized (unless it's the first word in a sentence or, in this case, the first word in a name/title). As I happen to be German, maybe I can help. Parts of names always get capitalised. So, for example, a random white house with an article would be 'das weiße Haus', but the White House as name of the certain building would be 'das Weiße Haus'. So if these cults were actually called "the nameless cults", which of course would be totally paradox, it would be "Von Unaussprechlichen Kulten". But I suppose it were just random cults, so you are right. Other than that, this is a really nice analysis of the name. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.190.204.188 (talk) 11:40, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The book plays a central role in Luca d'Andrea's 2019 novel "Il respiro del sangue" (German: "Der Wanderer")
