Checking against GA criteria

[edit]
GA review (see here for criteria)
  1. It is reasonably well written.
a (prose): b (MoS for lead, layout, word choice, fiction, and lists):
I made a number of minor copy-edits. Prose good, structure fine, lead summarises the article adequately.
  2. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
a (references): b (citations to reliable sources): c (OR):
Article is well referenced, sources are RS, no evidence of OR. I assume good faith for off line sources.
  3. It is broad in its coverage.
    a (major aspects): b (focused):
Covers the subject in sufficient detail, without unnecessary trivia
  4. It follows the neutral point of view policy.
    Fair representation without bias:
  5. It is stable.
    No edit wars, etc.:
  6. It is illustrated by images, where possible and appropriate.
a (images are tagged and non-free images have fair use rationales): b (appropriate use with suitable captions):
Two images used with suitable rationales and captions
  7. Overall:
    Pass/Fail:
I can't find fault with this, so am happy to list it. Congratulations! Jezhotwells (talk) 14:45, 10 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Article title

[edit]

I moved the article to "Imprisoned with the Pharaohs", as that was the title it was published under and is most well known. "Under the Pyramids" was only known from an ad in lost and found looking for an earlier draft, which may have been substantially different from what was published and is mere trivia, not the actual title. Wikipedia naming conventions demands we pick the most well known version, and certainly the one that it was not actually called is not the real name. DreamGuy (talk) 19:08, 25 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Seems like much ado about nothing, since a quick search makes the claim that "Imprisoned with the Pharaohs" is the title under which "is most well known" a disputed one. Furthermore, the anthology that I happen to have (H. P. Lovecraft: Complete and Unabridged), as well as noted scholar S. T. Joshi, all refer to it as "Under the Pyramids", so I don't think that it's as clear cut as you have made it out to be. I'm not really going to challenge the move, since it really doesn't matter what title the article is under as long as the article quality is being improved, but I think that it is a contentious change nonetheless. I have known this story for more than 30 years and have never seen it referred to as "Under the Pyramids" until I stumbled across this Wikipedia article. The story appears in six different Lovecraft book collections that I own, and also an eBook collection, always as "Imprisoned With the Pharaohs".
It seems rather ridiculous to head the article with the title of an early draft of the story, rather than the actual title under which the story was, and continues to be published. It's rather like heading the article on Bram Stoker's "Dracula" as "The Un-dead", or Orwell's "1984" as "the Last Man In Europe".
The story's first publication in Weird Tales had the title "Imprisoned With the Pharoahs":

Hell, Wikipedia's own bibliography of Lovecraft's works lists the story as "Imprisoned With the Pharoahs".

Imprisoned with the PharaohsUnder the Pyramids – This article was moved without consensus in 2014, after it was listed as a good article. Almost all of the sources listed in the article primarily use the old title to describe the text. Both of the sources in the further reading section do the same. I searched for additional sources on JSTOR and found that "Under the Pyramids" returns more results than "Imprisoned with the Pharaohs" does. Several of the results for "Imprisoned with the Pharaohs" mention it as an alternative title. Furthermore, most of the recent publications appear to use Lovecraft's original title. ―Susmuffin Talk 07:45, 17 March 2022 (UTC) — Relisting. signed, 511KeV (talk) 08:40, 24 March 2022 (UTC) — Relisting. 🐶 EpicPupper (he/him | talk) 07:04, 9 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose, already at original publication title (see the lead image, published under the name "Imprisoned with the Pharaohs"). Randy Kryn (talk) 12:06, 26 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
