Confusion in photo name[edit]

When I first did the 32nd Indiana Monument, I mistakenly confused it as the Union Monument in Louisville, and thus named the pictures for the 32nd wrongly. I hope this doesn't cause too much confusion.--Bedford (talk) 10:27, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Honestly, it is confusing and it will forever cause confusion. Back at Wikimedia commons, why don't you try replacing that incorrectly named image. If necessary, delete the incorrectly named one, and start over. Then fix the 32nd Indiana article as necessary to include a differently named new image. It only takes a few minutes to add a pic to Wikimedia commons now. It could cost others and perhaps you too lots of time in explaining what is what, later. Is this an NRHP? (Yes)[edit]

I don't find Louisville Union Monument listed in the NRIS system via the Elkman infobox generator. How is it asserted that this monument is listed on the National Register? It's in as "Union Monument in Louisville", done as "Louisville Union Monument" to match the title of Louisville Confederate Monument, which is in the NRHP as "Confederate Monument in Louisville". I added a link to the PDF file for the MPS to the article. The PDF seems to be just the overview, not the detailed description of each of the 62 monuments, which must have also been part of the submission. I suggest you request the entire document, including appendices / however the detail is described / from the National Register reference desk. Send email to nr_reference at nps.gov, give your postal mail address, expect prompt email reply and the physical documents in a week or two. Name of article[edit]

You stated above that you named the article differently than the NRHP name for the site ("Union Monument in Louisville"), because you wanted consistency in your view to a name for a different site. You used "Louisville Union Monument", as you said, to match the title of Louisville Confederate Monument, which is in the NRHP as "Confederate Monument in Louisville". Hmm. Sounds like unfortunate reasoning. The NRHP name for the site is Union Monument in Louisville. The Trails-R-Us name for the site is "Union Monument, Cave Hill Cemetery, Louisville (Jefferson County)". Only you are using the new name. The point with wikipedia article names for NRHP sites is that they should be either the NRHP name for the site or another commonly used name, with some defense for that common use name. Also, even your reasoning about achieving consistency falls down. There are other "Union Cemetery in ..." names within the MPS. Well, I wasn't the one that named the Confederate one either. Moved, not moved, doesn't matter that much for me, although consistency between the two should be a principle. - Okay, i changed the names for both of the sites, to the NRHP names. The article name for the one in Louisville seems to have been based on one webpage that is an external link, not an actual reference in the article. I argued there that the NRHP name is the name for 2 of 3 references, and the 3rd reference didn't come up with a clear name. Will see if this holds.
