Merger[edit]

I have merged this article and the article Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in Foreign Parts together. Both articles were covering the same information, mostly the history of the SPG before it became the USPG. The SPG article is now a redirect to this one, but the talk page and page history are still intact. Ltwin (talk) 02:10, 2 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Article name should be spelled out[edit]

This article should be at United Society for the Propagation of the Gospel, with USPG as a redirect to that title. It is customary in encyclopedias to use spelled out names of institutions and organizations. bd2412 T 19:23, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The intention of this article was not meant to be an endorsement or otherwise of this organisation, rather a true reflection of what the organisation is today. The original article (which has since been edited) [[1]] was anti-slavery propaganda, where no mention was made of the organisation as it stands today, its name or even its continued existence beyond the slavery era. A more accurate portrayal of the USPG was re-written and produced under the organisation's new name: USPG: Anglicans in World Mission in order for it to reflect the current activities of the organisation while giving a true history of the organisation, with the slavery part put into context. However, it was recognised that the first paragraph may appear promotional rhetoric, so it has been reduced to two sentences, removing the mission statement of the organisation completely.--87.85.73.66 (talk) 15:02, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
