Cleanup[edit]

The article needs a lot of work - the history section appears not to have been read before posting as it is ungrammatical and doesn't make sense - also, are these different private organizations? What about the Mercury Seven Foundation and the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation? The relationship to Space Camp? Other than Grissom's spacesuit, what is in there? The details about admission fees don't belong here either. Some research needs to be done beyond just their brochure - maybe there were news articles at the time of its creation? ANyway - if there should be an article on this, it should be more comprehensive and comprehensible. Tvoz |talk 23:16, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As near as I can figure, Mercury Seven Foundation and the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation were created by the Mercury Seven and were instrumental in the creation of the HoF. However, the Hall of Fame was owned by the US Space Camp Foundation until 2002 when they were sold to Delaware North Companies in order to pay debts caused by the Foundations bankruptcy.[1] --Bobblehead (rants) 04:41, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

revised: Recommend rename to United States Astronaut Hall of Fame[edit]

I created U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame as a redirect to here. I recommend swapping them. Later, as entries are created for Cosmonaut Hall of Fame and various country's own astronaut halls of fame, Astronaut Hall of Fame can change from a redirect to a disambiguation page. The KSC website calls the place Astronaut Hall of Fame, not U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame. Any proof of the correct name?Feddhicks 20:19, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The proof you need is at the KSC web site, in the first "external links," U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame: The title of the article on the web page is "U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame®" The web page title is different, it calls it the Kennedy Astronaut Hall of Fame. I just made a redirect from "Kennedy Astronaut Hall of Fame" to "Astronaut Hall of Fame." When other countries with astronauts have their own hall of fames, this article will need to be moved to "U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame" and a disambiguation page added. davidwr (talk) 22:16, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think a more definitive source is the photograph that illustrates this page. The name of the place appears to be

Kennedy Space Center (where it is located)
United States Astronaut Hall of Fame

I think therefore we should rename this article to: United States Astronaut Hall of Fame, and change the redirect pages to point from Astronaut Hall of Fame and U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame to this page, renamed. While I'm not strictly opposed to the move, I'm also not sure the move is necessary. Based on google searches "Astronaut Hall of Fame"[2] seems to be the common name by far, with "U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame" coming in a very distant second[3] and "United States Astronaut Hall of Fame" barely showing up as a blip.[4] Basically, unless there is a compelling reason to do so, precision beyond the common name is unnecessary. --Bobblehead (rants) 04:20, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, ok - I don't feel strongly about it. Just noticed the name in the photo when I was looking at the source, so thought we might want the full name. I'd be satisfied with changing the bold name in the first line to spell out United States and leave the rest as is. But I don't really care that much in any case about this aspect. Spelling out United States would probably be more appropriate than U.S. as I put it. I just used that because they had the copyright symbol after that name on the HoF homepage. However, a quick check of the copyright database indicates that the full name is actually "United States Astronaut Hall of Fame". Need help filling in the Inductees category[edit]

I need some help tagging all the Hall of Famers with the new category. Please go through the list of Hall of Famers and add a link like the following to their category list: [[Category:U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame Inductees|LASTNAME,FIRSTNAME]] I think the LASTNAME,FIRSTNAME is just for alphabetizing. After you save the change, scroll to the bottom of the astronaut's wiki entry and click on U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame Inductees and make sure he shows up properly. The master list is here. John Glenn clarification[edit]

An editor took out the reference of John Glenn. I put it back because he was Senator in 1990 when he was inducted. There is no indication whether this influenced or did not influence the choice. However, he was inducted even before first man on the moon Neil Armstrong (who is not a Senator) was inducted. Feddhicks 16:30, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Actually it's not at all surprising that Glenn was inducted before Armstrong - Glenn's orbit was miraculous back in the early 60s, making his a household name and a major reason he was elected to the Senate. I wasn't quibbling with the fact, I just think it is coming in out of left field without any verifiable reason. Your statement here appears to be OR, but if there's something to back it up it would be interesting to include. I don't think this is a big deal either way, but I actually don't think saying he was a Senator at the time of induction is relevant unless you can spell out why you're noting it. By the way, a list with identifying information and dates of induction - at least for the first 10 or 15 inductees - might be a nice addition to this article. The original seven astronauts were also the charter members of the Hall of Fame. It would seem reasonable to have included Armstrong and his Apollo 11 crewmates in the inaugural class, however the Mercury Seven were such legends in their day (as documented in The Right Stuff) that they will forever be at the top of the US astronaut pecking order. In other developments, I have added some details about the early inductions (I am not identified because I goofed and forgot to sign in) and am working on compiling complete list.Clubiguana 08:34, 26 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

confusion between space shuttle and Space Shuttle[edit]

The space shuttle is a general name for the U.S. Space Shuttle and the Russian Buran. The Space Shuttle is the name for the U.S. spacecraft.Feddhicks 21:13, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Titusville?[edit]

No doubt the Hall of Fame receives it's mail from the closest post office, which happens to be Titusville, but I strongly suspect that the facility is located in the county, just southeast of the city. Student7 (talk) 19:49, 16 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Both the Astronaut Hall of Fame and the adjacent American Police Hall of Fame have addresses in Titusville. The Astronaut HOF is located on the corner of Vectorspace Boulevard and 405. The addresses are not relevant per se. I have lived in Florida for 35 years, seldom in a city but always with a city address. A map of the actual city could provide some info which you may be getting at with your second argument about boundary. So the city limits are definitely relevant. The post office address is irrelevant.
Contrary to all this is the fact, recently inserted, that KSC has some kind of responsibility for the HOF. It would seems curious if it were in Titusville. Why would KSC want it there? Cities have been real slow to extend boundaries since about the 70s. What they take in in property value seldom compensates for the services that are required, in this case, fire and police. KSC proper has no responsibility for the HOF, Delaware North does. Delaware North owns and operates the HOF along with the Visitor Complex. The bought it from the Space Camp (also not a part of KSC) 15 years ago.--RadioFan (talk) 17:15, 8 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
