"Critique an article" Evaluation “United States women’s national volleyball team” Not every fact or table is followed by a citation. However, the references that are included are official, reliable sources appropriate for the topic. All the information in the article is relevant to the team. Media in the form of charts outweighed the text of the article but did not distract from the substance of the page. In fact, the charts about the team and its records enhanced the article with facts that a reader would be interested in knowing about the topic. The article is neutral, as it presents plain, unbiased language to provide the reader with historical facts about the team. The article’s factual nature does not allow room for biased lenses or weighted perspectives. The information stems from the following sources: TeamUSA.org, the United States Olympic Committee, and the FIVB. Although the sources are directly linked to the team and the sport, the facts extracted from them do not appear to be pushing an agenda or ulterior motive of any sort. I would therefore consider the sources neutral. The sources themselves, such as the team’s website, may advertise for and display the team in a positive light, but I do not detect any promotional biases within the content retrieved from the sources and inserted into the article. The article focuses on the team’s basic information and history, so I have not identified any particular viewpoints or any overrepresentation or underrepresentation thereof. The citation links function properly and lead me directly to the sites referenced in the article. The text of the article includes a general summary of facts from the sources, and no plagiarism or close paraphrasing is readily noticeable. As a reader would likely be interested in the team’s performance record in past competitions no matter the current year, I would not consider any of the information outdated. Though the team’s finish in the 2016 Summer Olympics is documented in a table farther down in the article, the team’s Olympic journey could be added to the introductory text following the information about the year 2014. Furthermore, their most recent competitions and preparations could be added to refresh the article and keep it updated. What has the team been doing since their completion of the 2016 Summer Olympics? What games and tournaments have they since competed in? What upcoming competitions and events are they currently preparing for?Yaa Harpo (talk) 16:29, 7 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
