Sections needing improvement

[edit]

I've been editing the article to try to get it up to FA status. It would be great if anyone would like to help out. The "Notable people and alumni" section needs references for Luitzen Egbertus Jan Brouwer, Hendrik de Wit, Menno ter Braak, J. Slauerhoff, Thomas von der Dunk, and Max Euwe. Some of the notable people don't seem to meet Wikipedia:College and university article guidelines for notability and should probably be removed from the article (Hendrik de Wit, Thomas von der Dunk, and Menno ter Braak). I'm going to open up discussion on removing them. The history section also needs some improvement and more sources. --Swimmerguy269 (talk) 19:36, 14 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A great school for open discussion. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.134.64.88 (talk) 23:54, 3 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

They are considered notable on the Dutch wiki, see nl:Hendrik de Wit (botanicus), nl:Thomas von der Dunk, nl:Menno ter Braak, meaning they are/were well known in the Dutch speaking world. I don't know if this means they're known to the English speaking public. Tgeorgescu (talk) 21:10, 15 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]
An image used in this article, File:J.H. van 't Hoff.gif, has been nominated for deletion at Wikimedia Commons in the following category: Deletion requests January 2012
What should I do?

Don't panic; a discussion will now take place over on Commons about whether to remove the file. This gives you an opportunity to contest the deletion, although please review Commons guidelines before doing so.

  • If the image is non-free then you may need to upload it to Wikipedia (Commons does not allow fair use)
  • If the image isn't freely licensed and there is no fair use rationale then it cannot be uploaded or used.

Communal university

[edit]

Technically, Amsterdam is a commune, not a town. GU (Gemeente Universiteit) was the name of the UvA, previously, this translates as Communal University or Commune University. Tgeorgescu (talk) 01:06, 16 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
