Not released as a single

Previous editors of this article appear to have been under the impression that the song was, or is planned to be, released as a single. It isn't, and I've just overhauled the article to reflect this.

Please make sure everything you put into the article is verifiable and confirmed by reliable sources. One of the bad things about these pop song articles is how overzealous fans like to insert a whole load of inaccuracies and unsourced rumours and speculation based on what they read in their crystal balls. Song or Single infobox

As I see it, the song has a video and has been serviced to radio and DJs as a 12" single and is available commerically as a digital download and has seen chart action, so it should have a single infobox, not a song infobox. Can we have a real discussion here instead of editing back & forth, please? - eo 15:02, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

You have to make a difference between "promotional release only" and "real singles". "Upgrade U" has NOT been released as an official single yet, but received airplay and download success some time ago - that's why it charted on the Billboard Hot 100. It's just an album cut. - Noboyo

Even if it's a "promotional release", it should still be using {{Infobox Single}}. {{Song infobox}} is meant for well-known songs like "867-5309/Jenny" that were never released as singles, promotional or otherwise. A single infobox should be used for singles - not for charted album cuts. - Noboyo

It IS a single. And for the bajillionth time I am changing the infobox to a single infobox because it was released as a 12" vinyl and the video was serviced to BET as opposed to the other songs that got videos on B'DAY Anthology. No one agrees. It has not been released as an official single, since there's no source with Beyoncé confirming that "Upgrade U" is one. The song, however, was released for promotional use only on vinyl. Noboyo 22:29, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

EXACTLY!!! It was RELEASED! it doesnt matter if it was promotional or not. technically all singles are all promotional so people will buy the album. it's a promo SINGLE therefore it should have a SINGLE INFO BOX. Ratizi1 20:38, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Well it was released because it was requested - it charted but was never an official single release. the label just released the 12 because so many djs requested it and wanted the track (especially for remixes)

Should be removed from singles chronology

"Upgrade U" was not released as an official single from B'Day. The 12" was released at request of DJs and such, but it was never officially promoted or sent to radio stations as a single. During the copyedit a few things came to light that may need attention:

Music structure, theme and lyrics

• "moderate hip-hop song" - I do not know what that means, it could probably be better explained. I suspect most would imagine it is referring to the tempo, though I am pretty sure that is not what is intended!

Chart performance

• Not sure about the UK charts listing. The official website does not hold info about it [1] and I cannot find any press reports about it's position on the UK charts; moreover, I would have assumed that it not being released in the UK would preclude it from being listed. Digital downloads charts would obviously be different, though there is no info on that in the article.

Music video

• "on BET's 106 & Park" - what is BET?

Live performances and covers

• "2 Pistols' debut single "She Got It" which features T-Pain phrases "let me upgrade u" has been used on his 2008 debut album, Death Before Dishonor". - This is a bit of a mess. I cannot tell which refers to which; is 2 Pistols a bloke, if so is it him or T-Pain whose phrases "let me upgrade u" are used on 2 Pistols' album or T-Pains? (also, does the phrase really "belong" to T-Pain? I thought it would be beyonce's phrase ...)
• In fact most of that paragraph is a little off - they are uses of the phrase, not even covers, and really seem as if they should not be there as they appear to be trivia. Indeed the only one that looks as if it might belong is the Lil Wayne one, which uses the song's beat.
