Music

[edit]

I'm sorry but the bit about Uppingham being considered a good school for music 'mainly as a result of the new music block' is a load of rubbish. Its long been considered excellent for music, mainly as a result of Paul David and not the building that's named after him. I will change this bit if no one objects. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.7.24.78 (talk) 21:12, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Knighted Alumni

[edit]

Can the editor who keeps changing the names of knighted Alumni so that their "Sir" is not included please explain whether this is some sort of Wikipedia policy? If I had a formal titled bestowed upon me by our Monarch I would definitely like it to be included in my page title. Is the Queen listed as Lizzie Windsor? I suspect not :)

Merging of Articles

[edit]

I would prefer if the articles on Boarding Houses were not merged. Separate pages on these houses are going to grow and be quite extensive in their own right given the information which differs in each one. I propose to continue to expand these house articles and once expanded they would be unwieldy and large to merge with the main school article. Nico 10:52, 29 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Merging of Articles

[edit]

I also agree. Each house at Uppingham has its own distinctive style and will no doubt want its own page to reflect that. Merging them all just won't look good or be very practical. Sammies' girl

[edit]

Why does somebody keep deleting the house links?

Because they've been merged and redirected into this article. No point having an article link to itself. JYolkowski // talk 16:12, 15 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Merger, again

[edit]

I would really suggest that you all reconsider your positions on merging for a few reasons. First, a long article with detailed information on all of the houses is of much more benefit to Wikipedia than several tiny stubs that are never going to get expanded. Second, if not merged, these articles are likely to get nominated for deletion at some point or another, and the content will be lost to Wikipedia permanently. JYolkowski // talk 16:12, 15 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. All of the house articles don't contain enough information to enable them to be kept on their own. One of the articles has already been nominated for deletion Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/West Bank House and it looks like it will be redirected here. Probably the best way to go forward is to have a separate section for each of the houses in this article. When one of the sections gets long enough then that would be the time to start a separate article. --RicDod 16:48, 15 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Having reconsidered I think I now agree. As a member of staff we have encountered problems with the students editing some house pages in an immature way and vandalising others. I have removed the links to the houses from that section and will leave them out of this article for the time being. --Nico 12:01, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Inconsistency

[edit]

It is claimed that there are six girls' boarding houses, but only five are listed. Please could someone with the appropriate knowledge of the school correct this. Thanks. Viewfinder 15:09, 23 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

One of the boarding houses, Constables, is in the process of changing from a boys house to a girls; therefore it fits under both categories. ;;;

Yes I concur. As a member of staff I can confirm that Constables is currently mixed, with girls in the fourth form and boys only in the upper fifth and upper sixth. --81.151.159.49 18:33, 30 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I edited the main article, but by all means re-edit it for better clarification if necessary. Viewfinder 17:29, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

Article Importance

[edit]

I've increased the article's importance from Mid to High due to very many notable alumni and interesting history of the school. (Chgallen 17:59, 1 June 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Kingswood at Uppingham during WWII

[edit]

(Posted on both schools' talk pages) At Kingswood School there used to be a stone set into the library referring to the period when Kingswood was lodging at Uppingham School during the war. I believe that a pair of stones were exchanged, can anyone confirm or deny the existance of such a stone at Uppingham, and where it is? A photo or a transcription of either or both stones would be nice. In passing, what is the old Kingswood library used for nowadays? Martin of Sheffield (talk) 11:41, 19 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
