Untitled[edit]

The last album released by Motown was "To Love Again," not "diana." Also, it is incorrect to say that Ross released an album while at Motown. This is not true. Under her then contract, Motown decided what album was to be released. The primary reason Ross left Motown was for artisitc freedom, financial security and artistic parity. Under her RCA contract, she was contracted to release seven albums. Therefore, she and not RCA, decided what was to be released...although, RCA, had some say from a financial point-of-view. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.156.1.75 (talkcontribs) 21:15, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

One little thing[edit]

The single was also a big hit internationally, reaching #2 in the UK. dd The article talks as if everyone in the world is from the United states of America. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Shj95 (talkcontribs) 14:08, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm removing mention of a music video. There was no video shot for this song. The "video" which was included in later Diana Ross music video collections is just a compilation of clips and stills from her film Mahogany, set to the song. Technically, the first music video Diana shot was for "My Old Piano" (which was seen in the UK only). Her first US music video was "Why Do Fools Fall in Love".

It's number 72 on the all-time list, not 62 as appears on this page[edit]

The result of the move request was: not moved. An article is either notable or non-notable. Notability of a subject decides whether we have an article, not where we place an article. (non-admin closure) SSTflyer 05:37, 21 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 27 September 2016[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: Moved as proposed. The only opposition concerns the disambiguator, but there is enough of a consensus that "Diana Ross song" satisfies our rules, as she weas the first to record etc. etc. Note that the move of the dab page may be deferred until after some incoming link repair, which I will carry out now.  — Amakuru (talk) 19:57, 4 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

– It hasn't been very long since the last discussion, but with respect, it wasn't much of one. But it's true that the 2012 film alone surpasses this song in page views, not to mention all of the other notable topics listed on the disambiguation page. Maybe we could never have an article on the idea of something being literally upside down, but I'm concerned that the status quo will result in a lot of WP:SURPRISE for readers. Google Books and general searches also strongly suggest the lack of a WP:PRIMARYTOPIC here. --BDD (talk) 18:41, 27 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support per nomination. —Roman Spinner (talk)(contribs) 04:23, 28 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support no absolute topic for very generic term. In ictu oculi (talk) 10:14, 28 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose It is not a Diana Ross song. The song was written and composed by Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards. It is their song. Caden cool 15:43, 28 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Caden, would you support moving to an alternative title? Upside Down (Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards song) is rather clunky (cf. WP:CONCISE), and there's ample precedent for naming song articles for the artist who popularized them (i.e., made them notable). But my chief concern here is that the song just isn't primary topic for the phrase "upside down". --BDD (talk) 15:51, 28 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Yes BDD I do support moving it to an alternative title. How about naming it Upside Down (song)? Ross might have sang it but it is not her song. Caden cool 15:58, 28 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Ehh... we typically don't do plain (song) when there are multiple notable songs of the same name—see Upside Down (disambiguation)#Songs. Could this song be considered primary compared to them only? I'm not sure. No policy specifically allows or disallows such "sub-primary topics", and some editors reject the idea out of hand. I don't, but neither do I see this as an obvious case like Thriller (album) (which really should be the title instead of a redirect, but I digress). Certainly Diana Ross is more notable than the other acts, but given WP:NOTINHERITED, that's not enough. --BDD (talk) 16:03, 28 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I would agree with you BBD that this version is far more notable than the other songs. This of course might not be enough to satisfy others. Caden cool 16:17, 28 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support move as proposed. DAB has traditionally used the first artist to record the song, and using Rodgers and Edwards' name in the title is far less recognizable. As for the song itself, it's clearly not the primary topic. Nohomersryan (talk) 14:42, 29 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support as proposed. The evidence shows this isn't the primary topic, and the suggested disambiguation is the most recognizable one.--Cúchullain t/c 18:00, 3 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
