ചെറിയനാട് ബാലസുബ്രഹ്മണ്യസ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രം , നെടുവരംകോട് മഹാദേവക്ഷേത്രം , കുതിരവട്ടം ധർമ്മശാസ്താക്ഷേത്രം ഉൾപ്പടെ അഞ്ചോളം ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളുടെ ആറാട്ട് ഇപ്പോളും നടക്കുന്നത് ആല പഞ്ചായത്തിൽ അവശേഷിക്കുന്ന ഉത്തരപ്പള്ളിയാറ്റിലെ നെടുവരംകോട് ആറ്റ് കടവിലാണ് . വെള്ളം കുറവാകുന്ന വേളയിൽ പുറത്ത് നിന്നും ജലം കടവിലേക്ക് എത്തിച്ചാണ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിലെ ആറാട്ട് നടത്തിപ്പോരുന്നത്. അഞ്ച് പഞ്ചായത്തുകളിലെ നൂറുകണക്കിന് പാടശേഖരങ്ങളുടെ ജലസ്രോതസ് എന്നതിന് ഒപ്പം മദ്ധ്യതിരുവിതാംകൂറിലെ പ്രശസ്ത ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളുമായി ആറിന് ബന്ധം ഉള്ളതിനാൽ ഒരു പുണ്യനദി പരിവേഷവും ഉത്തതരപ്പള്ളിയാറിന് ഉണ്ട് .

various movements and associations wee formed since 2007 to push the case. may memorandums and pleas were filed till now.

Citing no action being done irrespective of followup in the last several years, young enthusiastic people from five panchayths joined through whatsapp group and formed an agitation and awareness committee under the leader ship of Mr. V.S. GOPALAKRISHNAN, who authored a book on river

Current Situation of River

Following closure of River mouth at Puthattinkara in Achanovil river and construction of culverts without any proper study the flow of water form river to river came to a standstill.

When the water flow stopped. which was usual for a period of 6 months till 1974. local habitats started cultivation and encroachment of land

some even con structured their houses en route.

Sue to unscientific construction of culverts near puthattinkara in achankovil led to frequent floods in the town of Venmoney

the reason was attributed to uthrappalli river and river was totally closed by 1992.

Mean time, at the other end, the population who always expanding looking for means and living and deprived of water started occupying the river beds and government departments turned a blind eye.

in a span of 30 years 50% of river med become dry

The Population of 107,499 as per 2011 census no longer have access to natural potable/drinking water

and agriculture lands around 3000 hectares are under questionable condition.

since 2006, many of the local sensible people satrted agitating to correct the historical blunder by few people

survey of river started but completed only in 2 of 5 panchayaths so far.
