Benefits of plastic?[edit]

I'm assuming this not only lowered each mine's cost, but made them lighter and easier to transport. And yet, isn't there something chilling about the notion of one's work being to reduce the cost of maiming people? I'm sure that's what many people do, but I can't help picturing a roomful of cold-blooded accountants somewhere, adding up the savings.
