Remembering Valerie

I saw Valerie for the first time in French Postcards. To me, she stood out in a cast of young actors, many of whom would go on to successful careers. Charm is the best word I can think of to describe her presence. Charisma and allure might be good words too. Whatever you want to call “it”, she showed it again in Summer Lovers. I was truly saddened when I learned that Valerie was killed in a car accident when she was thirty-one years old. At that time, she was pretty much out of acting, but that doesn’t diminish the loss. One of the websites plays the Chicago tune from Summer Lovers as you scroll through Valerie’s biography. How poignant. I don’t know anything about Valerie’s private life, or the friends and family she left behind, but I hope they know that she is still remembered, and that her passing is still mourned. —Preceding unsigned comment added by user:76.1.81.135 (talkcontribs) 2006 July 21

Very sad to learn that Valerie died in a car crash in 1989. I too thought she was a charming and talented actress. I also deeply respect her decision to leave Hollywood in favor of starting a family—particularly when she gave it all up almost right after a hit movie (Summer Lovers) it seems very difficult for French actors/actresses to break into the American market, but she pulled it off. anyone who saw Summer Lovers seems to remember her. like the previous posting, I too would like to know if she ever achieved her goal of marriage and a family. Anyone with any information to post, please do! —Preceding unsigned comment added by user:Caulfield8 (talkcontribs) 2007 July 27

More information

She had a son with Francois Manceaux (IMDb), maybe two:

se mismo año Quennessen rodaría Summer Lovers en Grecia con Peter Gallagher y Daryl Hannah, tras lo que abandonaría el cine y se iría a vivir con François Manceaux, miembro del equipo de Summer Lovers. Tuvieron dos hijos pero lamentablemente Quennessen murió en un accidente de coche en 1989. Sus hijos y su novio sobrevivieron.

Note: movie director Antoine Manceaux is one of Valerie's children. —Preceding unsigned comment added by user:85.57.165.245 (talkcontribs) 2007 November 1

Disputed copyright information for Valérie Quennessen images

This message is to advise that I have tagged the following images with Wrong-license and listed them at WP:CP for 2007 December 17:

I have done this as these images are tagged with PD-Self, however there is no substantiating information either on the image description pages or through a named OTRS ticket to corroborate this. Unverifiable information about Valerie Quennessen

I removed an addition made by an anon ip to the main article. I post it here because it is interesting nonetheless;

However there is debate about if her death is factual or not. There are fans of hers that claim to have seen her around Paris after her supposed death. (Source Summer lover's fan group) Furthermore there was commentary by Peter Gallagher saying, "Valérie disappeared once before." (source: PeterGallagher.com in 2000)

The question remains is whether there is an obituary that could be found. Also, what about her children? Perhaps a French Wikipedian could help us out here? -Nodekeeper 10:16, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

Followup on this. Something that I can not put in the article because of WP:NOR is that there is indeed considerable doubt surrounding her death. It seems that the information about her death comes from a FOAF in the first place. Additionally, one forum poster actually searched all the records (and papers) for car accident deaths in France and was unable to find any mention of her. Another poster reported to seeing her name on a playbill a year earlier. However, this may be the same as the Elvis sightings in the late 70's. Maybe she got tired with people hounding her about the movie Summer Lovers. Anyway, posted so that others can pursue research in this area. -Nodekeeper 08:18, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

After several months of waiting for a valid citation for the following sentence (and not finding one), I have decided to delete it for Wikipedia policy reasons WP:RELIABLE and WP:USERG;

 "She is buried in the Jewish section of Montparnasse Cemetery in Paris; the grave is marked "Matalon/Drodelot/Quennessen"."

Which comes from a forum posting and violates WP:USERG and WP:VERIFY. The IMDB source is questionable and shaky by itself, but because it purportedly comes from a reliable source, I quoted it and let it stand as such in the article. Nodekeeper (talk) 07:24, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
