Requested move 13 December 2017[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: Request rescinded as moot; disambiguation page now exists at Varshavskaya. (closed by non-admin page mover)  — SMcCandlish ¢ >ʌⱷ҅ʌ<  21:59, 13 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

{{requested move/dated|Varshavskaya}} Varshavskaya (Moscow Metro)Varshavskaya – Same anon (under a different IP address – they only seem to last a few minutes) just had a whole raft of moves like this rejected here as not non-controversial; this one slipped through. It's "pre-emptive disambiguation" of something the anon thinks is ambiguous, but with no actual article title clashes. If we actually need a disambiguation page – for three or more things, otherwise use a hatnote per WP:TWODABS – then create it at Varshavskaya (disambiguation). We can consider at a regular WP:RM any alleged WP:PRIMARYTOPIC claims, etc., etc.  — SMcCandlish ¢ >ʌⱷ҅ʌ<  17:06, 13 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This is a contested technical request (permalink). Anthony Appleyard (talk) 20:56, 13 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • @SMcCandlish: "Varshavskaya" means merely "grammatically feminine and belonging or named after Warsaw", and may occur in other names, e.g. Deena Varshavskaya and street names etc. Clearer to keep the disambiguator. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 21:00, 13 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Anthony Appleyard: I sympathize with the idea (and did recognize the meaning of the name immediately – cognate with Warszawa, etc.), but I've practically been skinned alive for attempting to do pre-emptive disambiguations in absence of an actual article title clash. Pre-emptive DAB just isn't non-controversial. Even trying to get WP:DAB to admit that such a thing was ever possible lead to a terrible squabble and revert warring (my attempt to get something about it into that page, or any other page by an essay or user page, was fought to a standstill, by multiple parties, and I've accepted it as an uneasy consensus since then, unless local consensus makes a case-by-case WP:IAR exception).

I think there probably should be a disambiguation page but there isn't one. So, what do people want to actually do here? Create one? Pre-emptively disambiguate even without one? Put it back at Varshavskaya until some other article vies for the same title?.

NM; I see the DAB page has been created. I guess we'll need to wait for another case to have a big discussion about pre-emptive DAB.  — SMcCandlish ¢ >ʌⱷ҅ʌ<  21:59, 13 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
