Feedback from New Page Review process[edit]

I left the following feedback for the creator/future reviewers while reviewing this article: This subject might meet WP:NACADEMIC, but the current citations don't display this clearly. Simply citing examples of the subject's work does not cut it for establishing notability: we need significant, independent coverage in secondary sources. The closest thing that we currently have to such a source is this excerpt from a paper..

@Rosguill, Do you think this can be taken as another source? ─ The Aafī (talk) 06:50, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have included one other source and I feel this should be helpful. ─ The Aafī (talk) 07:52, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
TheAafi, the only excerpt I'm able to see from the linked source is Vasundhara Sirnate Drennan went further and argued that all victims of sexual violence now faced a clear risk of death, if they managed to survive the ordeal. I don't think this changes my assessment much. It establishes that Sirnate is a working academic, but does not establish a significant impact in their scholarly discipline, broadly construed, as demonstrated by independent reliable sources. (from NACADEMIC); I think that the impact attested by the cited source (assuming what I was able to read is the entirety of the relevant content) is considerably more narrow than what NACADEMIC would call for. signed, Rosguill talk 21:28, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Rosguill, I have always learnt from you. Thanks for this insightful opinion. Let me see if I can find anything substantial more than these two. One of the two resources that I added says, However, when Munnu shouts back "this is Kashmir" (Sajad, 291), we know that his fears are not uncalled for; in the words of Vasundhara Sirnate, the chief coordinator of research at The Hindu Centre for Politics and Public Policy, who wrote in an article in The Hindu: "An Intelligence Bureau official stationed in Kashmir told me that they were tapping 10 lakh phones in Kashmir alone by 2014. Mobile telephony was introduced in India in 1995 and, owing to security concerns, was permitted in Jammu and Kashmir only in 2003. For the state, the arrival of cellular phones proved to be beneficial in tracking down militants. However, since 2008, a surge in mass civil uprisings and the use of technology for information dissemination, protests and mobilisation in the state have led to major curbs on mobile services and the internet. (Falak). "Such fears and the curbs mentioned by Sirnate are unthinkable in the case of any other territory. and the Brill one mentions, Vasundhara Sirnate Drennan went further and argued that all victims of sexual violence now faced a clear risk of death, if they managed to survive their ordeal. The BJP government's reaction 'to the recent horror in Kathua' not only 'has birthed a myopic ordinance' but it would have the effect of awarding 'the death penalty not to rapists, but to victims of rape.' This is because, in or- der for the offender to maximise his chances of avoiding the death penalty, what he will now have to ensure is that 'the girl he rapes will not survive' be- cause he knows that she is the only witness to his crime' and if there remains even ‘a marginal chance that she will report' him, then he must kill her after the rape.(39)
I am just reproducing this text here in quotations in case you have not been able to access the whole. Looking forward to your insightful opinions. ─ The Aafī (talk) 04:04, 6 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
There is some stuff here as well.
1: By becoming involved in politics, they were able to turn their traditional authority into a modern, legal authority, said political scientist Vasundhara Sirnate. “There’s a sense of entitlement with which former royals went into the political process. They knew that if they lose an election… it hurts their traditional authority,” she said.
2: Sirnate, the political scientist, says people in India often think that these sorts of killings only happen in places where there are insurgents. “These are not happening on the peripheries of the country,” she said of encounter killings. “In the Bharatpur case, (it’s happened) to a family that is extremely mainstream.”The Aafī (talk) 04:41, 6 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If the sources aren't doing more than citing the subject for their perspective, they're not providing any coverage of them. I think the above examples would make a strong case that Sirnate's work is strong RS for the subject matter that Sirnate specializes on, with WP:USEBYOTHERS on top of her academic credentials, but that's not the same as being notable. signed, Rosguill talk 06:18, 6 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
