If poor web design and worse spelling was a crime, they should be arrested, but they do make some of the problematic claims in their own voice, so this + the context video should do? FortunateSons (talk) 14:43, 5 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It's a very suspicious source. 'YouTuber' isn't even spelled correctly and gets his last name wrong, despite the reader's comment spelling it right. How does that happen. There's no issue with the first six paragraphs, until it turns into a weird screed for the final three paragraphs. Glancing at other parts of the site makes me think it's some sort of astroturfing thing. No, it shouldn't be added. SWinxy (talk) 04:07, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, if I had to guess, there was a journalist and an editor/executive/some other person working on that, or perhaps someone wanted it pushed out before a deadline. That would explain the spelling mistakes, or it was caused by the age of the journalist, local news can be of mixed quality.
There is decent readership (or least decent clicks) and a somewhat old history, so I don’t think it’s astroturfing (or it’s very stealthy). FortunateSons (talk) 07:49, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

controversies

[edit]

Listen, I'm not a particular Vaush hater, or lover for that matter, I just regularly watch his content on youtube and I agree with most of it. However, I'll have to agree with Letdown101's comments in this page. I mean, how can there possibly be no reference of his recent "folder incident", and all the controversy generated by it? He even addressed it himself so I don't see how come you can't have a section regarding that and his response to it. And mind you, I'm not even much bothered by that incident but you can't deny it was a huge controversy that spilled a lot of ink, so to speak.Sérgio R R Santos (talk) 13:46, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I believe if you actually read the responses to the various threads upstream from here, you will get all of the answers to your questions. Primefac (talk) 13:52, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
So it's business as usual. Got it. Sérgio R R Santos (talk) 13:58, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's business as usual to be stringent about sourcing for living people. If it was a huge thing, WaPo or the NYT would probably have covered it. SWinxy (talk) 18:09, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Lol, you've got to be kidding with that argument. Is all of the rest of the information about him in his page gathered from newspapers? Like I said, i'm not even that much invested in this subject but it seems @Letdown101 is on to something.Sérgio R R Santos (talk) 18:17, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Sérgio R R Santos Do you have a reliable independent third party source for it? Adding it requires one. A Socialist Trans Girl 01:48, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
How about straight from the horse's mouth? so to speak... Sérgio R R Santos (talk) 01:52, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Self-published sources (like someone saying something themself) should only be used for uncontroversial self-descriptions. Since this is a controversy, it's by definition not an uncontroversial self description. Plus, if we allowed someone's own word as the sole source for controversies, that could allow very biased descriptions of how the controversy played out, which we do not want on Wikipedia.
Do you have a reliable independent third party source for it? A Socialist Trans Girl 02:13, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
100%. SWinxy (talk) 02:19, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, you people do whatever you want, like I said, I really dont care. Well I care enough to start a topic in the talk page, but that's only because I was led to this page by @A Socialist Trans Girl when I was at wikiproject linguistics and she posted a link about a discussion about how to pronouce Vaush, which I found really curious because I thought that was an established matter. Apparently how to pronounce his name is also a big controversy, certainly the biggest he was ever involved in! Sérgio R R Santos (talk) 22:12, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Should we consider adding a FAQ about this to the talk page header, since the standard BLP template doesn't seem to be a sufficient reminder that reliable sources aren't optional in a BLP? Or adopt a local practice of quick-closing threads like these that don't propose any suitable sources? VQuakr (talk) 22:48, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You people already managed to lock this page, now you want to immediately close threads in the talk page just because we don't provide sources? From what I've been reading in this talk page - and I really want to get the hell out of here and only look an linguistics articles - people have provided PLENTY of sources, you just choose to ignore them. I mean, how can there possibly be a neutral article about Vaush and not even mention the folder incident, which is, if not the biggest, one of the biggest controversies of his carrer, at least recently. You could even point out, like he did in his "context video", that most of the criticisms of him were in bad faith with numerous out of context clips; however, regarding his explanation of not being aware that a particular image was "loli" (i believe that's the term) you have to take him at his word, and that's subjective.
Anyway, go ahead and close this thread - i'm tired of getting excited when i see a notification and it turns out is this stupid page. Fui! Sérgio R R Santos (talk) 23:14, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There do exist "unsubscribe" and a "remove from watchlist", but sure, continue to be a sea lion. Primefac (talk) 23:25, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the information, and thank you very much for providing that link about an expression i wasn't aware of, that in no way describes my activity here; now you're just gaslighting me - here's a link for you too; I receive and I give. Sérgio R R Santos (talk) 23:48, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Listen people, let me end this: I wasn't trolling, contrary to @Primefac's sugestion, when i started this thread, i was genuinely surprised to see that Vaush's page didn't include a single refference to that incident. I'm not a child, i dont spend my time trolling. But everyone feel free to stop replying to me and end this discussion; I don't plan to make any edit to this page (i dont think i even can), and even if i wanted to i'm too lazy to provide all the sources you desperately call for, just dont confuse my criticism for trolling; I have to say I even felt slighly offendend with that suggestion. Goodbye for ever, and it was a pleasure to meet you all! Sérgio R R Santos (talk) 00:09, 28 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh just one last thing: you have to admit that one "straight from the horse's mouth" was pretty funny, right? Ok, now I really have to go, i have a murder scheduled. Sérgio R R Santos (talk) 00:15, 28 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You're the only one who mentioned trolling. WP:BLP is not optional so I'm not sure why you think requiring RS is "desperate". VQuakr (talk) 01:37, 28 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No, @Primefac mentioned it when he referred to me as "sea lion", which, according to the wikipedia page that he linked to is described as a form of trolling, maybe you should've check that link before commenting! Regarding the use of the word "desperate" on my part, I was trying to make a jocose remark and coudnt think of the exact word i was looking for, so I left it at that. Maybe "eagerly" would be better? I dont know, i'm sorry guys, i'm not tryimg to offend anyone. Sérgio R R Santos (talk) 01:53, 28 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've added an editnotice to this talk page. I hope it has a positive effect. Closing w/o notice on threads w/o sources is acceptable, per the standard notice language. SWinxy (talk) 04:34, 28 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
