Commercial vehicles[edit]

Buses, trucks, etc. in Russia and many former USSR countries often have their registration number painted on them in large letters. I believe this is still required as of 2006, but could someone who knows better add this information to the article?  ProhibitOnions  (T) 18:27, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Since July 1, 2008 it's doesn't need anymore. Also, I have one question and one qualification and addition. As addition I want to tell, that there're some more types of license plates: for civil there's a number of square plates, uses for tractors, tractor trailers, other agricultural, road and self-propelled machinery. Square plates also uses for motocycles. More information about it here [1], it's in Russian, but I can comment. The qualification is about "yellow" numbers. Yellow numbers are not given anymore since November, 2009. And the question is about these words: "Some autonomous regions are not required to have the flag on the licence plates.". cities vs oblasts[edit]

I believe one should link oblasts rather than administrative centers... i.e. Novgorod Oblast instead of Novgorod. What are your opinions? Goudzovski 18:58, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

even older styles[edit]

Before white-on-black there was black-on-yellow style. It defenitely existed in 60's, but I have no idea when it was replaced. There is also no information in the article when the current style was introduced. schmalter (81.18.115.133 (talk) 15:54, 9 August 2009 (UTC))[reply]

  • Exactly what violation of grammar is supposed? There is nothing structurally wrong with the current title. Nor do I see lexical or semantic issues. Using of to show origin (vs. concrete possession) is quite common in English. —  AjaxSmack  03:31, 28 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • In Russia we can see license plates other than ones of Russia. And some license plates of Russia can be seen outside of Russia. This article is about the license plates of Russia, and not about license plates in Russia. Hellerick (talk) 12:20, 28 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • From the grammatical standpoint, I have no problem with either the current or the proposed variant. There is a incoherence with the content of the article[edit]

In the section "runout problem" it says that it is not possible for the Russian government to use a number in every three-number code as a first numeral except for the number 1.

That is not true because Moscow has the code 777.

RfC:Soviet Plates?[edit]

It is a fact that Russia is the successor state of the USSR, but as Soviet VRPs have a largely different format (and font), is it needed to actually move the "Soviet" part of this article(which is only a paragraph in length--more info?) into a new page named something like "Vehicle Registration Plates of the Soviet Union"?
