Proposal: Spin off the revival?[edit]

Most of this article is about the original Venetian Gothic style, rather than the revival. The revival can be more broadly classified as "High Victorian Gothic" or "Ruskinian Gothic" (where much of was eclectic it wasn't necessarily from Venetian stylings), which has not its own article, and rightfully deserves one. Would anyone object to that being divided that out, and sumarized/hatnoted from here? Morgan Riley (talk) 17:57, 6 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Went ahead and created such a page at High Victorian Gothic, though have not transferred any material between the two. Morgan Riley (talk) 19:50, 6 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Page title?[edit]

Why do we need to specify that Venetian Gothic is a kind of architecture? What other Venetian Gothic cultural forms are there? I suggest moving the page to Venetian Gothic, which at the moment is a redirect to this page and seems to be a fully satisfactory title. If there's no objection here, I'll probably do that in a day or two; if there's any opposition I'll just drop the idea. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 20:50, 8 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I see you thought better of it. It is true that VGA is very likely to be the VG topic most people want, although there is also VG painting for example. But we can't assume that the reader or searcher knows this. Johnbod (talk) 14:35, 15 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

DATES please[edit]

The article needs more dates throughout. Even the "History" section has no dates at all. As it is, the reader cannot tell whether the style originated in the 900s or in the 1700s... --Jorge Stolfi (talk) 02:44, 15 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I've added some, though it wasn't as bad as you suggest, and actually dating is often rather hard - most early palaces don't have documented dates, and many are Gothic makeoovers (windows etc) of earlier frameworks. Also buildings often took a really long time to be completed. Johnbod (talk) 14:30, 15 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
