Clean up[edit]

I've tried to reorganize and clarify this article to give it a consistent flow, remove the most blatant speculation, and otherwise neaten up the writing. --Boradis 01:24, 14 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A little more neatening and tidying, but it really needs to be cut down to about 1/3 this long. --Boradis 23:46, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Spelling errors in References[edit]

Can someone fix this? I can't seem to figure out how, but the reference text at the bottom should read like this (there are spelling errors as well as transcription errors):

Vergil: Insane buffoon! I don't know where you came from but you don't belong here. Now leave! Jester: Zowie, that was close. But you've taken quite a trouncing today, haven't you Vergil? You could have chopped me into confetti by now if you were in tip-top condition. Vergil: Damn you! Jester: You have lost... Arkham: Because you've underestimated humans.

Also, the following is from a seperate bit of the script completely...

Jester: It was quite a ride, you know. If any of you had died, my little plan would have gone to waste! So my job was to let you battle each other in order to weaken you, but at the same time I needed to guide you here and make sure you were kept alive. I even went so far as dressing like a complete idiot!

This is a good point. I've noticed other gamescript cites we've used that contain errors, mispellings, and other issues. Something we should all keep in mind is that we can't assume a gamescript transcribed by someone else is correct. All the quotes we use should all be double-checked ideally against our copies of the game -- or at least by checking one of the many online archives of the cutscenes. If one reader mentions it then hundreds or thousands have noticed it, but didn't bother to post. Thanks for the heads-up! --Boradis 05:05, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. Should I search through the DMC articles and see if I can find more transcription errors? I'm pretty familiar with the game script, although anyone who felt like watching the subtitled scenes on YouTube could do the same. --Edit, I notice that this particular script error seems to be the product of directly copying a game script on GameFAQs.com that has quite a few errors in it, so I'm going to work through my copy of the game later this week and try to produce a script that's as accurate as possible. 129.2.145.93 13:23, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Great. I've done some cleaning up of the script quotes on the article that's currently the top of the "Devil May Cry" taskforce's list, DMC3. You might also want to consider getting a Wikipedia account so you're not just an anonymous IP. --Boradis 07:15, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I had one, I'd just forgotten to sign in! Silly me. I'll post a link here once I've posted a more accurate script somewhere. Recalcitrancy 18:25, 19 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Expansion needed; could lose GA status[edit]

Flowerpiep and Tintor2, I have pinged you because you were the main contributors to this article. In order to keep GA status (specifically due to the criterium of broad coverage), the development and reception section will need to include information about Vergil's DMC 5 incarnation. his DMC 5 version is already described in the appearances section, so that's a third of the work done. I've given everyone a heads-up in good faith to try and improve article. If the problem hasn't been addressed in two weeks, I'll begin a good article reassessment.--Megaman en m (talk) 07:23, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Megaman en m: You see, the thing is that Vergil is never playable in the game and that his entire existence is not revealed until the late missions from the game. As a result, developers and reviewers avoid mentioning him in reviews to avoid spoilers to gamers. Still, I'll see if a writer manages to focus a bit of his DMC5 role which is actually quite small.Tintor2 (talk) 17:51, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Found few sources about DMC5 Vergil. I would need to find an artbook or wait for a later article that discusses spoiler events from such game.Tintor2 (talk) 18:16, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, that should be enough to maintain GA status!--Megaman en m (talk) 13:14, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Copyvio[edit]

Running a copyvio check on this article revealed a 90% probability of plagiarism. What is going on? Horsesizedduck (talk) 00:01, 9 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

By any chance was there a mirror site? Cos I remember how this was created and revised From nothing kinda like Obito. Then again I stopped checking this article after adding dmc5 info. Tintor2 (talk) 00:22, 9 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

https://copyvios.toolforge.org/?lang=en&project=wikipedia&title=Vergil+%28Devil+May+Cry%29&oldid=&action=search&use_engine=1&use_links=1&turnitin=0

Check it out, but maybe don't click the wmi site, seems rather suss. Horsesizedduck (talk) 00:25, 9 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Seems like this article was created back in 2005 and then merged back. It was then recreated by the time DMC4 was out and the DmC reboot (I think around 2012) was still in development. I really doubt it was copypasted from other sites if I remember correctly.Tintor2 (talk) 01:03, 9 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
