Notability[edit]

The first two sentences are the only ones which have any relevance. Should be merged or deleted, as most of the information here is pointless and meaningless. Who cares what the current President thinks politically? Who cares who the President in 2001 was? Get rid of it - completely non notable.

Victoria University Debating Society[edit]

Propose moving back to own page:

  • of particular importance to both Australasian and World debating
  • Auckland University maintains own similar page, no reason same could not apply to Victoria
  • when removed discussion only involved three people —Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.28.159.227 (talk) 09:26, 11 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Keep here - Unless you can answer the points raised and show that the Debating Society meets the WP:GNG and WP:ORG that were the reasons for the merge in the first place. Codf1977 (talk) 10:00, 11 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Keep merged. This was merged for good reason: the Society does not have significant coverage in reliable sources. Unless that can be shown, it shouldn't have its own article.--Mkativerata (talk) 18:37, 11 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose move proposal. Re point one: That's not a rationale for restoring a completely unsourced article - we don't create articles based on "importance" but on the notability criteria. Re point 2: WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. There being other pages is never accepted as a valid rationale for whether an article is kept or not. Re point 3 - There was a public discussion and clear policy-compliant reasons were given to support the move. We don't work on head counts here, but by strength of arguments so the number of people who participated really isn't important - what is important is the fact that there was a policy-compliant rationale for the merge. At present, the "Debating Society" section of this article has zero citations, a violation of the Verifiability policy. There's no reason to move a completely unsourced section and transform it into a completely unsourced article. The previous article at "Victoria University Debating Society" sat there with zero citations from when it was first created in 2006 through to the merge. The people who cared about the article have had four years to work on it and get it into a policy-compliant state but no one has ever done so resulting in the page eventually being merged into the parent article. A move back to a standalone article shouldn't even be contemplated until the section is fully sourced with policy-compliant reliable sources and even then, a credible case would need to be made that the group meets the inclusion criteria and is Notable independently from the university (and any other groups). Keep here - but it's not a particularly great situation. Since voluntary student membership, VUWSA has lost control of clubs at Victoria University, so the club isn't really related to VUWSA at all anymore (except, I guess, the historic relationship) Ballofstring (talk) 07:42, 15 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Election results[edit]

Hi all. I appreciate the efforts people have made to keep this page up to date, but I do wonder if we really want to record election results going back a number of years in the main page. Perhaps they could be spun off into another page or we could just link to a record of election results somewhere else? Cheers Ballofstring (talk) 04:08, 26 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
