'alleged' and weasel style[edit]

@Ceedjee:

  • How do you know the name 'village files' was made up by Pappe? See reference 19 in the book, it refers to 'the intelligence service and the village files'
  • You should not write in the weasel style, like 'The files would have provided...'. If you think it's pov you should make it 'According to Pappe the files provided'

1. Indeed but you should go farther...
Note 19 is a reference for a sentence written by Luria. In what year ? At the very beginning at this project given he instigated this, I assume.
The references talks about 1940-1948 period.
And p.19, what do Pappe writes : « By the late 1930's, the archives was almost complete. » Strange. What did they do during 40-48's period ?
Note 25 (second one concerning Villages files) is the reference for : « in 1947 this whole cartographic department was moved to the Red House ». That is strange to find this information in a document that gathers detailled description of Palestinian Arab villages.
Later "Pasternark lead one of the early excursions (...) in 1940". I am definitely lost. And there is no reference...
Write Pappe (he doesn't answer me) and ask him a copy of these files. I will be glad to make this translated from Hebrew for free.
...
2. No. As far as Pappe is concerned, we must assume lies. Ceedjee (talk) 19:56, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
1. Please read this: The ethnic cleansing of Palestine Here it says 'By the late 1940's', where it says 'By the late 1930's' in the book. Apparently there is a typographic error in the book.
2. I don't mind if you assume lies, but I do mind if you do not treat Pappe as a reliable source. Please, if you think something that Pappe says is pov put 'According to Pappe' in front of it, but don't use weasel words.--JaapBoBo (talk) 20:19, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No, no... This is not a typographic mistake.
Read again the chapter in the book.
Pappe is the only one who talks about these files with such words. Until others confirm my working are appropriated. Or until you can show they exist. (I agree to read Hebrew). Ceedjee (talk) 22:03, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
In the link I give above it says: "By the late 1940s, the “archive” was almost complete."
Even if PAppe is the only source, we have to treat him as a reliable source. --JaapBoBo (talk) 22:10, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
So, it was completed in 1948-49... Harder and harder to understand.
Personnally, if I had wanted to be clear and having nothing to hide, I would have written : "it was completed soon before the First inter-communal war in Palestine".
And, remind me. Was this used or not during the 36-39 arab revolt ? :-)
But I am happy you agree these village files are one of the main argument put forward by Ilan Pappé in his novel. (else you would not have created the article, would you ?). Ceedjee (talk) 12:35, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, since they used it in the war I think Pappe means 1947/1948 with 'toward the end of the 1940s'. --JaapBoBo (talk) 19:39, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
