Female

Virgo is the only sign in the western astrological chart represented by a female?

Firstly, though not visually a female, the crab, in cancer... yes, that signifies a woman. "Cancer (The Crab) (water, cardinal, personal): Keyword: "I feel". Protective, sensitive, tenacious, family and home oriented, helpful, nurturing, watery, emotional, loving. Can be crabby, clinging, moody, worrying, pessimistic." do your homework first, next time. PLEASE. 72.222.231.252 (talk) 13:25, 10 December 2008 (UTC) I onley thought that it was a girl? (Twilight578 (talk) 14:04, 5 May 2009 (UTC)) ~edward cullen~

Compatibility and the chart?

A chart such as the ones found in Scorpio's page would be helpful to those who want straight-forward compatibility charts. This would also be useful on the other zodiac sign pages that don't have them, for one reason or other. Also, last time I checked, there was not even a section for compatibility on Virgo's page. Can someone fix this? 174.109.113.44 (talk) 19:55, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

Tropical and Sidereal dates not usually the same

In the first paragraph, reference is made to both the tropical and the sidereal dates of this zodiac sign. These dates usually vary from each other, but here, each respective system is showing the same dates as corrected by the user Gemma Gemini (without citation, as is so often and blindly tolerated by Wikipedia volunteers). This is a verifiable fact and yet it is in contradiction to information in the last paragraph of the page (section Sidereal zodiac, another entry without citation).

I am terrified of making corrections myself, as my input in the past with truthful and referenced content has been blocked by bullying Wikipedia volunteers, who were not able or willing to read and understand the finer aspects of written and evidently verifiable words. Thus could anybody please reverse the entries by Gemma Gemini made on 23 July 2012 to show the correct sidereal dates for this astrological sign? Thank you. No, I am not a Virgo. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.97.194.109 (talk) 00:56, 26 August 2012 (UTC)

Redirection of Western Zodiac signs

On 22 October 2012 the contents of the articles for the individual signs of the western zodiac (Pisces (astrology) etc.) were removed and replaced with redirects to Astrological sign#Western zodiac signs. These edits were made by User:Dominus Vobisdu with the edit summary: Unsourced and unsourceable cruft. No justification for stand-alone article. This did not seem to follow a community discussion.

Following concerns raised at the Reference Desk I will, after posting this, restore the articles to the form they were in immediately before their redirection. At least some of the articles seem to have been significantly reduced in size also prior to this redirection, however I have not reverted these changes.

Because I am sure editors may wish to discuss this (perhaps to reinstate the redirects, or make other changes to these articles), however a discussion spread among the talk pages twelve articles in question would be too dissipated, I suggest Talk:Astrological_sign#Redirection_of_Western_Zodiac_signs as a centralised discussion location. An editor with more experience than I in Wikipedia policies may wish to move this discussion to a better location. LukeSurl t c 15:21, 23 October 2012 (UTC)

Virgo vs. Libra dates

This page says that Virgos are born between 28 August – 28 September while Libras are born between 23 September – 23 October. So what astrological signs are people born between September 23 and September 28 under? Someone please fix this.

I also wonder if this is the place/article to tabulate the dates before and after the change/redirection. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.33.250.136 (talk) 00:25, 19 February 2015 (UTC)

Astrological Mumbo Jumbo stuff missing

I was looking for some information on what traits people of a particular star sign are supposed to have. I'm not a believer in that stuff, but it is a fact that some people believe, and so I wanted to find a reference of what's what, much like is seen on the page: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Leo_(astrology)&oldid=656008071#Leo_Traits

Now I buy the fact that it's not fact, but it is also relevant information. If the (astrology) pages aren't the right place to put/find that, can someone tell me where is. I've done the run around on wikipedia, and come back to where I started.

Deletion of "Notable People from History born when the Sun was in Virgo".

Not only does that sentence not make sense - the whole section is entirely unnecessary. How is Freddie Mercury from "History"? Delete. Kingofthesalads (talk) 06:58, 4 September 2011 (UTC)

How is he not? The word history relates to recent past events as well as the events of a previous era - see the section above 'view history'. You may as well ask "how is what I posted a few hours ago part of history?". -- Zac Δ talk! 08:29, 4 September 2011 (UTC)

I've removed the section. It was unreferenced, is original research, is impossible to represent in a neutral manner, and is highly likely to attract imappropriate edits.  Chzz  ►  13:25, 15 November 2011 (UTC)

Not to mention it would literally include 1/12 of humans ever born... Bit of a long list. 129.236.220.180 (talk) 00:08, 14 December 2015 (UTC)

Corrections to dates, date and citation format in sign articles

I have created a module which encapulates values for the dates the Sun enters and exits the various signs; the data is taken from the U.S. Naval Observatory's Multiyear Interactive Computer Almanac and covers 2015 through most of 2050. The Template:Zodiac date produces some erroneous results, so I hope to implement the change this week.

It is only practical to implement one date and citation style for the module and infobox, so it would be helpful if we can agree on what format to use for the various sign articles. Please discuss at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Astrology#Corrections to dates, date and citation format in sign articles. Jc3s5h (talk) 20:59, 23 March 2016 (UTC)

Female Debate

Hello guys. I deleted "Virgo is the only zodiac sign represented by a female.". I see you have had some arguments on this, however it ultimately matters not if it actually is the only sign represented by a female or not, for I see this sentence on an encyclopaedia article as irrelevant; it's not like a hardly noticeable thing or a matter of importance found after research. Please do not re-put something of the sort without discussion.

By the way, the argument brought up with 2s after 7s full of an IP address and ends with "PLEASE." : those characteristics may represent a stereotype of a woman, but they don't stand for all women. I don't say don't have personal beliefs on signs, just keep them away from articles.

Thanks. —Dimitrakopulos (talk) 18:59, 25 December 2008 (UTC)

It is the only sign with a clearly human, female character. The rest are much more conceptual or animals. This is perhaps not worth mentioning though, aside from the fact that Virgo is so strongly associated with the Feminine for this reason. --Arthurfallz (talk) 05:36, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Virgo is a neutral Earth sign ruled by neutral planet Mercury. It is the female child just reached physical maturity who does not know its sexuality or femininity yet - the female body of Virgo is only a physical state not a mental one, and mentally becoming a woman will happen with the transition into Libra. The neutral child transitions to female. --Charmvirgo (talkcontribs) 12:26, 27 May 2017 (UTC)

What does Virgo mean?

Does it mean "the virgin"? Would be interested in the etymology of this (and other) star signs. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 114.247.10.168 (talk) 11:18, 28 November 2011 (UTC)

The neutral child is transitioning to female in Virgo, by the END of Virgo the physical transformation is complete.

To understand Virgo you have to understand the whole Earth-Element as ONE energy that Virgo is only a third of. Agriculture reflects the Earth-Element cycle (growth, harvest, decline): 1/- Taurus is the growth of spring, it is physically young, rich and prolific, abundant, the fat of the land, rounded and generous, it stands for ALL physical excess (and is the opposite of Capricorn/Saturn). 2/- Virgo brings to harvest that sown by Taurus and represents the exact moment of ripe physical perfection. Just like the virgin in the Garden of Eden the fruit is ready to be picked yet has never been touched, that is the physical purity of Virgo. This fleeting moment of physical perfection cannot last and the fruit cannot stay perfect whether it's picked or not, hence the Mutability of the Sign. Virgo is literally halfway between the excess of Taurus and the lack of Capricorn, so Virgo must always be "never too much or too little but just exactly right and perfect" (neither Taurus nor Capricorn but both). Virgo stands for ALL that is physically balanced, health, physical order, everything in its place, everything present and correct. 3/- Capricorn is the physical decline (winter) when reserves lie dormant, it is physically poor, lean, minimal, thin and mean, it stands for ALL physical conservation (and is the opposite of Taurus/Venus).

Then the physical cycle begins again... 1,2,3, etc. --Charmvirgo (talkcontribs) 12:26, 27 May 2017 (UTC)

it says august 22 as the start date, it's august 23 :) 2602:306:C4B7:AE20:4960:1F0C:FB62:386B (talk) 13:17, 1 August 2017 (UTC)

This request will not be accepted because the editor has not indicated exactly what change is required; the text string "August 22" appears twice in the article, and the editor has not indicated which should be changed. Furthermore, consensus must exist for the change and this issue may not have been discussed on the talk page. Therefore, I'm creating a section after this section to discuss this change. Sun transit dates

2602:306:C4B7:AE20:4960:1F0C:FB62:386B (talk) requested a change from "august 22" [sic] to "august 23" [sic] but this issue may not have been discussed before on this talk page.

Actually the string "August 22" (note capitalization) occurs twice in the article, once in the infobox, and once in the body of the article. The instance in the infobox means that in 2017, the Sun enters the sign of Virgo on August 22 and exits on September 22, UT1. This is cited to the Multiyear Computer Interactive Almanac and can be verified in any quality almanac by those who understand how to use them. Since a specific year and time scale are given, these dates are firmly established. This was discussed above in #Corrections to dates, date and citation format in sign articles.

"August 22" also occurs in the sentence "Under the tropical zodiac, the Sun transits this area on average between August 22 and September 22...." The dates can change a bit from year to year, and also depend on what time zone you're interested in. So various authors give slightly different dates. If 2602:306:C4B7:AE20:4960:1F0C:FB62:386B expects to gain consensus for a different date, he or she should specify a reliable source for the dates he or she wants in the article. Virgos tend to be the extremely handsome and funny. They’re also known to possess incredible DJing skills when it comes to the fine arts of Drum and Bass.

I don't believe this to be a good faith contribution related to ongoing conversations about the attributes of Virgos (or other astrological signs).

Astraea in the lead

I think this information should be moved to the origins section. If it stays in the lead I think it should be clarified. The lead says that the symbol of the maiden is based on Astraea, but it does not say that Virgo is the zodiac symbol of the maiden. Is there some reason it is the way it is now? Indigotwelve (talk) 02:07, 15 August 2022 (UTC)

I added a source showing that in Greek mythology, Astraea is associated with the sign (or constellation, which in ancient times more or less coincided in the sky). The source is a description of an artwork from the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I modified the wording to say Astraea is associated with the sign, rather than say the symbol is based on Astraea.
Saying the "symbol" is based on something raises all kinds of questions. Which symbol? Was there a different symbol in Babylon?
I am not opposed to moving this material to the origins section. Jc3s5h (talk) 14:30, 15 August 2022 (UTC)
Thanks!
I think you're right about the symbol thing.
The Astraea myth is one of several mentioned in the article. To me, having it in the lead implies that it is more common or important or definitive, but I don't have the background to know if that is true or not. Indigotwelve (talk) 03:03, 16 August 2022 (UTC)

Molpadia vs Moldavia

Where it describes the myth of Parthenos, mostly it refers to Parthenos sister as Molpadia, but then it says ‘Moldavia settled in Castabus.’ I didn’t want to edit this, because I’m not all that familiar with Greek mythology, so I didn’t know if that was just a typo, or that’s there for a reason… 98.97.112.26 (talk) 08:13, 27 February 2023 (UTC)

Relation in Christianity

In the "Origins" section of the article, it mentions Christianity and how Jesus was born to Mary, but then goes on about the ancient Zodiac ending in Leo with no noticeable connection to the former half of the sentence. Should this be removed? ChocolateAvian (talk) 04:33, 3 March 2023 (UTC)

It might be useful to use "View history" and then "Find addition/removal" to figure out when the parts of the sentence were added, and by whom. Jc3s5h (talk) 14:45, 3 March 2023 (UTC)
