Dubious Article[edit]

Information in this article is dubious:

1. Name of Vladimir Glebov can not be found in any known list of people avarded with the title "Hero of the Russian Federation". For instance here or here. Also there is no President's decree on the official site, but search there goes back only to Y2000. Thus there is no relaible information he was awarded with this title.

2. Google search for 'Glebov' in English returns only one relevant source - the same one cited in this article. Various Google searches in Russian do not yeld any relevant results at all (there are hundreds and thousand URLs about other suspected and accused Chechen War criminals). So there is no information wheather he is a real person or not. Levg-en 00:53, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I created the article, mainly to fill out red links on the Hero of Russia article, which I also maintain. I have no problems with the article being deleted, but I think my problem was that either I didn't know his Russian name and didn't look it up, or the source I used is very, very spotty. According to [1] Тогда подполковник Владимир Глебов был одновременно представлен к званию Героя России и объявлен военной прокуратурой... уголовным преступником за «убийства мирных жителей с особой жестокостью» во время «несанкционированной зачистки» от боевиков нескольких кварталов Грозного. That meant that Glebov was only recommended to received Hero of Russia award. Despite this recommendation he almost certainly was not awarded this medal. According to [2] Год и семь месяцев длилась первая командировка Глебова на чеченскую войну. Два боевых ордена - Мужества и Красной Звезды. Thus he received the Order of Courage and the Order of Red Star. If he ever received the Hero of Russia medal it would certainly be mentioned Alex Bakharev (talk) 06:42, 2 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Lack of sources[edit]

Some thinkgs in the article are not backed up by the sources:

  1. "Despite reports of receiving the award, the name of Vladimir Glebov can not be found in any known list of people awarded with the title of Hero of the Russian Federation." I cannot find any mention of this in the sources. Instead, it seems to be WP:OR based on that someone was not able to find his name on a list.
  2. "The Russian government decided to not pursue the case..." In fact, the source only states that "Glebov's case had later been shelved and the colonel was allowed to resign his commission without any blot on his military record" There is no mention of involvement of the "Russian government". In fact, we don't know why the case was dropped and we shouldn't speculate.
  3. Finally, I'm not sure wether the site [1WorldCommunication http://www.1worldcommunication.org/index.html] is an appropriate source for such allegations. I think it should be removed. The Jamestown.org source should be sufficient.

You're kinda late, I already asked for confirmation of this. Also, it was User:Jaro.p who said there's no Glebov on lists.

OK for the source. However, just because it was another user who stated that Glabov's not on the list doesn't change the issue. The only sources we have state that he received the order. Hence, we should stick with that.Osli73 (talk) 18:54, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I see an article by Sergei Ptichkin in Rossiyskaya Gazeta,
  • Сергей Птичкин (2000-04-22). "Не спешите судить..." Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
Ptichkin stated that by February 1995 Glebov and others had seen 2 of their fellows brutally tortured and murdered and that Glebov decided to carry out a "hard wipe-out" of living quarters in the suburb of Grozny. Ptichkin wrote that Chechen guerrillas emptied the buildings and left peaceful residents to "laceration". I notice that Ptichkin's article, as most of the state-run press in Russia, justifies escalation of force.
