Cats etc[edit]

I have been asked for a third opinion in the dispute over the content of the accompanying surname page. I think the first important things to note are that a surname page is a species of SIA, and that while Wikipedia:Disambiguation#Set_index_articles clearly says

A set index article is not a disambiguation page, and need not follow the formatting rules for disambiguation pages.

its tone and substance also make clear that an SIA has jobs that it must do by functioning well as a list, and thus must not be impeded by cluttering the entries. Many of these concerns would be well-served by noting the common needs of Dabs, and this is emphasized by the elements common to {{Disambig}} and {{Surname}} (which i believe became part of the latter via imitation of the former).
I'm going to do an edit on that page, aimed mainly at reducing clutter.

  • I think either the new or the previous revision makes clear that being a family-tree page is incompatible with being an SIA. IMO there is room for a family-tree article on HH; i don't know if we have guidelines for them, but it would seem logical to include both his pedigree and the descendant trees of several close relatives in one article.
