static?

[edit]

what does "fully static 32-bit X86 processor" mean? 212.29.231.179 (talk) 08:01, 2 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Basic design in March 3, 1954

[edit]

I thought that the x86 processor wasn't invented until the 1980s, can we get a source on the date given in the introduction? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.18.165.242 (talk) 13:52, 11 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

i486 not i586?

[edit]

I've just built a linux kernel with buildroot for i586 architecture, won't boot on the Vortex86DX A9121, says "This kernel requires an i586 CPU, but only detected an i486 CPU." and "Unable to boot - please use a kernel appropriate for your CPU.". The article says the Vortex86 implements i586, but clearly the linux kernel detection logic thinks otherwise.
