Fair use rationale for Image:The cw baltimore wnuv tv.JPG[edit]

Image:The cw baltimore wnuv tv.JPG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Prose[edit]

  • In the lead, remove "(SSA)" as it is never used again.
  • In the first sentence of § Early years: Super TV, wikilink Baltimore.
  • In the second sentence, is said company really that unimportant that it not be named?
  • Is it possible to mention when (if known) Peter and John Fellowship announced their bid, for consistency.
  • I would wikilink newsmagazine (IDK if I am dumb but I have never heard of that term until now).
  • Wikilink cable TV.
  • "general-entertainment independent" – wikilink independent to independent station.
  • I know the second point is informatively sufficient but "economic factors" itself is a bit vague IMO.
  • Just curious, why does it say Salditch was "preparing for life" instead of something like preparing for the future of WNUV?
  • Wikilink NBC.
  • For one sentence there are a lot of commas. How about "The FCC approved of their purchase by way of ABRY Communications in March 1989, and" to improve the flow?
  • "antennas as an STV station" – recommend wikilinking and writing out satellite television.
    • That's S for subscription and it's introduced earlier
  • I know this is hardly relevant but is it possible to provide a short, few word explanation on why WBAL-TV declined to carry the show?
    • I don't think that'd be relevant to this article.
  • Wikilink Milwaukee.
  • "attempt to put up roadblocks" – recommend "set up" for improved formality (I am a pedant).
  • "low-power UHF station" – also write out and wikilink ultra high frequency with the abbreviation in parentheses.
  • On what grounds did UPN contest?
  • "became a front page issue" is informal – recommend rephrasing.
  • "was late to sign an agreement with The CW" – hmm, how about "with the network" or "with it" etc. since The CW was just mentioned?
  • "to start airing digital simulcasts" – I would wikilink simulcast.
  • Wikilink OFDM.
  • Wikilink ultra-HD.

The result was: promoted by Cielquiparle (talk) 05:56, 9 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Improved to Good Article status by Sammi Brie (talk). Self-nominated at 05:41, 15 August 2023 (UTC). Post-promotion hook changes for this nom will be logged at Template talk:Did you know nominations/WNUV; consider watching this nomination, if it is successful, until the hook appears on the Main Page.[reply]

  • Comment: At first glance, as an outsider, I have no idea what this DYK means. My first thoughts are, "Why is super capitalized? Do they mean, 'It won't be great'?" My second thoughts are wondering if Super was the previous name of the station, and the name is changing. If that's the case, it's not that notable--organizations change names. Do you have a better hook? Significa liberdade (talk) 16:47, 17 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    • @Significa liberdade: It is a quirky, for sure. Super TV was programming the station aired (it made them money, too) until the over-the-air subscription TV market cratered. Actually WNUV was really the last of its kind in that regard... Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 19:46, 17 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems

Hook eligibility:

  • Cited: Yes
  • Interesting: No - New hook would be nice
QPQ: Done.

Overall: @Sammi Brie: Good article, but I do agree with the idea that a new hook should be made. Not because I hate the hook but because it's extreme quirkiness may cause issues down the line and prevent it from being promoted. Onegreatjoke (talk) 02:47, 21 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

ALT1: ... that a Baltimore TV station aspired to be "the Cadillac of independents"? (https://www.newspapers.com/clip/122941311/wnuvs-night-move-channel-54-enters-pri/)
I'll try that but lets see how that goes. Onegreatjoke (talk) 21:09, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
