Deletion[edit]

This article has been marked for deletion from lack of sources. I think we may be jumping the gun on deleting it, I'm not sure of it's origins but I found I video of the dance style: YouTube Link --Vlsi0n (talk) 00:40, 10 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think a video on YouTube is gonna be sufficient to keep this article afloat. How does that video establish the notability of the subject? X MarX the Spot (talk) 00:42, 10 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My local studio offers Waacking lessons...58.168.94.6 (talk) 23:10, 12 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

From my personal experience as a dance student at University, I have seen Waacking have a great impact commercial hip hop and seems to be regarded as one of the foundational styles of hip hop dance, though it is often overshadowed by the non-queer forms like breakdancing, popping, and locking. There is definitely a lot more to be said about this dance form, particularly including more images and videos of people doing it, since dance is ultimatley a visual art form. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BorrisJBadanov (talkcontribs) 08:32, 31 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

To not merge on the grounds that while Waacking emerged from Punking, it has become distinct from it; that each are independently notable. Klbrain (talk) 06:12, 20 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hum... @Elliwellie: I see there is an apparent duplicate page titled Punking.

Although longer than this one, that page seems less developed, and I feel a proposal to merge (WP:MERGE) it here might make sense. 81.158.69.9 (talk) 13:10, 8 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, I didn't actually know this page existed! Thanks for bringing it to my attention. It has some good information in it that could be added to the Waacking page, I don't know if the contributors of the punking page want it to stay seperate or not Elliwellie (talk) 07:52, 10 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for that Elliwellie. I've started a merger proposal below, and have notified User: Urbananarchy22, who I suspect may be connected to User:Urbananarchyperformance, who created the content of the Punking page back in October 2016 and might be interested in this (if still on Wikipedia :). Since the two pages clearly refer to the same topic, I think it's probably completely appropriate (per WP:MERGE) for you to import relevant content here, whenever. 86.138.231.60 (talk) 13:40, 10 March 2020 (UTC) (previously 81.158.69.9)[reply]

Merger proposal[edit]

@Elliwellie: I propose to merge Punking into Waacking. Punking is actually an historical name for waacking, which is the currently used name. I think that the content in the Punking article (orphaned since 2016) can easily be explained in the context of Waacking, and the Waacking article is of a reasonable size that the merging of Punking will not cause any problems as far as article size is concerned. 86.138.231.60 (talk) 13:26, 10 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Don't mergeUrbananarchy22 (talk) 15:49, 10 March 2020 (UTC)<The content in the punking page is specifically and exclusively about the originators of the the artform Punking. The information is in regards to this history. Waacking is from an outside source that was not a part of the origins of the dance. To keep this information clear and protect the legacy of the individuals mentioned in this article.. we propose to keep it seperate >[reply]

  • Don't merge – I have just read the Punking article in full and I have to agree with Urbananarchy22, the content is almost all history and information about Punking as it's own entity and thus is probably best kept as it's own article and not merged with Waacking. Elliwellie (talk) 18:50, 10 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Don't merge - Punking though predecessor of Waacking as we see it today is very different from waacking seen today. Waacking is developed as a dance form while original Punking was a mix of acting, dramatics, dancing, movement inspiration from films and was an expression of the gay community and waacking is no longer in lieu with similar standard and should be considered a seperate entity.
