Waarish or Warish[edit]

The spelling of the film/article title here is really driving me nuts. I am article creator, single contributor and I am requesting move (read "confused"!)

In one DVD cover of the film the spelling is Warish in another DVD cover of the film, the spelling is Waarish
In Youtube partner's official channel, they have the spelling Warish.
Telegraph Calcutta is mainly using the spelling Warish (as here, here) etc.
In Times of India article the spelling Waarish has been used.

In the censor certificate of the film the spelling "Waarish" was used. (see image) I think since we are not getting much help from sources or DVD covers, posters etc, we should follow the film certificate's spelling! --Tito Dutta (talk) 17:04, 20 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm flattered you think me an RM expert, but I'm at a loss here. My first thought was to check IMDB, but of course you probably would've already found it and added it to the article if there were a page there. I did find a 1988 film named Waaris with Waris as an alternate title. That film was apparently in Hindi, but it wouldn't surprise me if it were the same word being romanized. For Google hits, it's 127,000 for waarish film -wikipedia against 73,100 warish film -wikipedia. Without a clear preference in coverage in reliable sources, I'm happy to defer to the older film, the Ghits comparison, and the article creator's judgment. Comment. Is there a standard way of romanising the Bengali language, and if so how would it apply to this film title? In other places in Wikipedia (the example I'm most familiar with is MOS:JAPAN) we use the standard romanisation scheme if there doesn't seem to be a romanisation preferred by reliable English-language sources. We could easily extend this principle to Bengali, but I have no idea about the Bengali language. — Mr. Stradivarius ^{(have a chat)} 16:13, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for reminding me! There's a Bengali romanization table from the American Library Association and the Library of Congress. It was updated in 2011, but I can only find the first character on it, which apparently romanizes to O. So I'm not sure how helpful it is in this case—better leave it to someone who actually knows Bengali. --BDD (talk) 16:37, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

(edit conflict) Thanks BDD! Being a native speaker of Bengali I have some more idea, both Warish and Waarish are correct. In IPA Bengali it will be something like oːjaːriːʃ. The problem is the film was in Bengali so, the Bengali title was mostly used. I faced a similar problem in Talk:Tapas_Paul#Requested_move.

I think when everything is confusing us, we should follow the Government document, I mean the censor certificate. But, unfortunate, another discussion where I requested move depending on Government censor certificate ended with "No consensus", see Talk:Subarnarekha_(film)#Requested_move. Difficult question, there are more than one way to Romanize Bengali National Library at Kolkata romanization, ITRANS, IAST and finally Help:IPA for Bengali. But, as BDD has said, those romanizations will not be much helpful here because of special ASCII etc characters. --Tito Dutta (talk) 17:02, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
