Geographical confusions Suggestion[edit]

@Dramatic and Paora: Northland is in Wellington. The Waipous River or, lets be honest, stream, is in the Wairarapa in the "city" of Masterton and 100 kilometres from Wellington.

May I suggest Waipoua River (Hokianga) and Waipoua River (Wairarapa) would be much better because they are less confusing names. Eddaido (talk) 09:12, 22 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Eddaido: No change needed. Per WP:NCNZ, when disambiguation is required for two features within New Zealand, the disambiguation is the official region in which each feature is located, which in this case is the Wellington Region for the Masterton river and Northland Region for the Hokianga river. Yes, a one-size-fits-all policy which should be broken when it becomes unworkable, like here. If I remember rightly Northland was until recently North Auckland. Could we try on Greater Wellington for size? That's the name of region. Thanks, Eddaido (talk) 02:12, 25 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I think it unwise to use a different disambiguation for just one article out of all those pertaining to the Wellington Region. Moreover, the name of the region is the Wellington Region: Greater Wellington is the promotional name, just as Horizons is the promotional name for Manawatū-Whanganui Region, and we don't use Horizons for disambiguation. You know much more than I do but you had better tell the Greater Wellington Regional Council they are using a wrong name! None of the other regions do that. Check me. Eddaido (talk) 09:53, 1 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
